Annette Meeks (born April 12,1960) is a Minnesota Republican politician and a member of the state's Metropolitan Council. She was the 2010 endorsed Republican candidate for lieutenant governor,running with gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer.
Meeks pursued a degree at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis,and also graduated from the American Campaign Academy in Washington,D.C. [1] She served as deputy chief of staff for House Speaker Newt Gingrich during his time in office. She later served as chief executive officer of the Center of the American Experiment,a conservative think tank,and as the vice chair of the Republican Party of Minnesota. She is the founder and CEO of the Freedom Foundation of Minnesota. [2]
Meeks was appointed to Minnesota's Metropolitan Council in 2003 by Governor Tim Pawlenty. She was reappointed to a second four-year term in 2007. She served as vice chair of the Council's Community Development and Transportation Committees. [2] She is no longer a member of the Met Council.
On April 28,2010,state representative and gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer named Meeks as his running mate. It was noted that she had previously argued that the position of lieutenant governor should be abolished. [3]

United States gubernatorial elections were held on November 2,2010,in 37 states and two territories. These elections coincided with the elections for the United States Senate and the United States House of Representatives as well as other state and local elections. As in most midterm elections,the party controlling the White House lost ground. Democrats took five governorships from the Republicans,while Republicans took 11 governorships from the Democrats. An independent won one governorship previously held by a Republican,while a Republican won one governorship previously held by an independent. Republicans held a majority of governorships for the first time since before the 2006 elections. One state,Louisiana,had no election for governor,but it did feature a special election for lieutenant governor.

The general election was contested by the major party candidates State Representative Tom Emmer (R–Delano),former U.S. Senator Mark Dayton (DFL),and Independence Party candidate Tom Horner. After a very close race,Dayton was elected governor. Emmer would be elected to the United States House of Representatives four years later.

The 2018 Minnesota gubernatorial election took place on November 6,to elect the 41st Governor of Minnesota as incumbent Democratic (DFL) Governor Mark Dayton chose not to run for re-election for a third term. The Democratic nominee was U.S. Representative Tim Walz from Minnesota's 1st congressional district while the Republican Party nominated Hennepin County commissioner Jeff Johnson for a second consecutive time. The Independence Party of Minnesota did not field a candidate for the first time since 1994. Going into the election polls showed Walz ahead;the race was characterized as lean or likely DFL.

Kathy Hochul ascended to the governorship in August 2021,upon Andrew Cuomo's resignation following allegations of sexual harassment. She sought a full term as governor. She appointed Brian Benjamin to the position of lieutenant governor and planned to run alongside him until he too resigned in April 2022. Congressman Antonio Delgado was appointed to replace Benjamin as lieutenant governor. Hochul defeated Jumaane Williams and Tom Suozzi in the Democratic primary for governor,while Delgado defeated Ana Maria Archila and Diana Reyna in the Democratic primary for lieutenant governor.
