Dennis Brian Close,was an English first-class cricketer. He was picked to play against New Zealand in July 1949,when he was 18 years old. Close went on to play 22 Test matches for England,captaining them seven times to six wins and one drawn test. Close also captained Yorkshire to four county championship titles –the main domestic trophy in English cricket. He later went on to captain Somerset,where he is widely credited with developing the county into a hard-playing team,and helping to mould Viv Richards and Ian Botham into the successful players they became.
Schofield Haigh was a Yorkshire and England cricketer. He played for eighteen seasons for Yorkshire County Cricket Club,for England from the 1898/99 tour to 1912,and was a Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 1901.
Alan Raymond Butcher is a former English cricketer who is part of a family known for its strong cricketing connections. Although only selected to play for England on one occasion,he was lauded for his skills in first-class cricket and was named a Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 1991. He became Essex coach in 1993,and coached Surrey between 2005 and 2008. John Thomas Tyldesley was an English cricketer who played first-class cricket for Lancashire and Test cricket for England. He was a specialist professional batsman,usually third in the batting order,who rarely bowled and generally fielded in outfield positions.
Chris Old is a former English cricketer,who played 46 Tests and 32 ODIs from 1972 to 1981. A right-arm fast-medium bowler and lower order left-handed batsman,Old was a key feature of the Yorkshire side between 1969 and 1983,before finishing his career at Warwickshire in 1985. As a Test bowler for England he took 143 wickets,and scored useful runs in the famous 1981 Ashes series' Headingley victory. Arthur Frederick Augustus Lilley,variously known as Dick Lilley or A. A. Lilley,was an English professional cricketer who played for Warwickshire County Cricket Club from 1888 to 1911,and in 35 Test matches for England from 1896 to 1909. He was born in Holloway Head,Birmingham,and died in Brislington,Bristol.
The 1997 cricket season was the 98th in which the County Championship has been an official competition. The season centred on the six-Test Ashes series against Australia. He is noted as being a fine fielder in the covers. He became the youngest Leicestershire one-day centurion and first-class double centurion. In 2009,Taylor also became the youngest player in Leicestershire's history to score 1,000 championship runs in a season. A promising talent in his 34 white-ball appearances for England,Taylor was forced into retirement at just 26 years of age due to a previously undiagnosed heart condition.
Nathan Theodore Wood is a former English cricketer. Wood was a left-handed batsman who bowled right-arm medium. He was born at Thornhill Edge,Yorkshire.
