Antonia Clara Iacobescu (born 12 April 1989), known professionally as Antonia, is a Romanian singer.

Early life

Antonia Clara Iacobescu was born on 12 April 1989 in Bucharest and moved with family to the United States at the age of five. [1] She spent her childhood in Utah, singing at the age of ten, and American culture strongly influenced her musical style. She finished high school in Las Vegas, Nevada and entered the modelling world. [1] She has participated in hundreds of photoshoots for catalogues and has collaborated with American agencies such as Lenz and Ford Models. [2] [3] In 2013, she launched her clothing line called MOJA. [4] At the age of 18, Antonia returned to Romania with her family. [2]

Career

In 2009, she met the Romanian producer Tom Boxer through a friend who had heard her singing. [2] After the two met, Antonia and Tom created their first song known as "Roses on Fire". [2] They also created a music video for the song, directed and filmed by Boxer. [2]

In 2011, she released a single entitled "Pleacă" with the Vunk band. [5] In mid-summer of 2012, Antonia released the promotional song "I got you" and the single "Jameia", the latter reaching 5th place in Romania. [6] After the birth of her first child, Antonia returned to music as a solo singer. She released "Marionette", written by the Dutch producer and Afrojack. [1]

In 2014, she participated as a judge in the TV show Kids Sing, broadcast by Kanal D. [7] On 17 April 2015, Antonia released her debut album This Is Antonia through the Romanian record label Roton. [8] The album contains 12 tracks and is available in physical and digital format. In 2017 Antonia participated with Alex Velea as contestants in the show Look Who's Dancing on Pro TV. [9] Also, in 2017 and 2018, she was on the jury of the television show The Four, broadcast by Antena 1. [10]

The artist was also chosen, because of her notoriety, to dub Janette's Romanian voice in Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip. [11]

Personal life

Antonia married Italian businessman Vincenzo Castellano in 2011, and they have a daughter together, Maya Rosario Castellano (born 2010). [12] The two separated in 2013 and were in the process of divorcing, which ended in 2020. [13] In 2013, Antonia started a relationship with Romanian singer Alex Velea, with whom she has two children, Dominic (born 2014) [14] and Akim (born 2016). [2] The two announced their engagement in July 2021. [15]

Carla's Dreams is a music project from Moldova, formed in 2012 in Chișinău. The band is composed of an anonymous group of singers and composers who perform their songs in Romanian, English and Russian. Their lead singer, codenamed Sergiu, and his bandmates all hide their identity in public appearances by wearing hooded sweatshirts, sunglasses and a face mask made of makeup. Carla's Dreams rose to prominence in Moldova and Romania upon releasing the single "P.O.H.U.I." with Inna in 2013, and have since then issued nine singles that went on to be number-one singles in Romania.

"Nos Fuimos Lejos" is a song by Cuban singer Descemer Bueno and Spanish recording artist Enrique Iglesias, featuring collaborative vocals by El Micha. Written by Bueno, Iglesias, El Micha and Jorge Luis Piloto, it was digitally released on 6 April 2018 by Sony Music Entertainment. "Iguana" is a song by Romanian singer Inna. It was digitally released on 30 November 2018 as the second single for her sixth studio album Yo (2019) by Global Records and Roc Nation, although having already been made available for streaming and airplay earlier that month. It was written by Inna and Cristina Maria Chiluiza, while production was solely handled by David Ciente. Musically, the uptempo track has been described as being club and salsa-influenced, extending Inna's change in direction introduced with "Ra" (2018). The song's lyrics are in Spanish and see Inna discussing jealousy and lovesickness.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Obsesii</span> Romanian song

"Obsesii" is a song recorded by Romanian singer Alexandra Stan, released as a single by Universal Music Romania for digital download on 31 January 2020. A Romanian language track, it was written by Alex Pelin and Vlan Lucan, while the latter handled the production alongside Radu Bolfea. Lyrically, "Obsesii" discusses a love which has turned into obsession. Music critics particularly praised the song's lyrics, as well as Stan's vocal delivery. An accompanying music video was uploaded to her YouTube channel on 2 February 2020. Directed by Bogdan Daragiu, the black and white clip depicts Stan and several dancers wearing loose shirts to symbolize freedom. <span class="mw-page-title-main">Roxen (singer)</span> Romanian singer

Larisa Roxana Giurgiu, known professionally as Roxen, is a Romanian singer. She rose to prominence after being featured on Romanian producer Sickotoy's "You Don't Love Me" (2019), which reached number three in Romania and received radio airplay in several other countries. Her following singles, "Ce-ți cântă dragostea" and "Spune-mi", eventually peaked atop the national chart. Roxen was scheduled to represent Romania in the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 with the song "Alcohol You" before the event's coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)-related cancellation. Instead, Roxen was internally selected as the country's representative for the 2021 contest with the song "Amnesia", but failed to progress from the first semi-final, finishing in 12th place.
