Aphyocypris amnis is a species of freshwater ray-finned fish belonging to the family Xenocyprididae, the East Asian minnows or sharpbellies. [1] It is native only to a tributary of the Shuili River in Taiwan. [2]

The introduction of mosquitofish and habitat destruction caused the extirpation of this species from Hong Kong and the species was considered to be extinct in the wild. However, a similar species Aphyocypris pulchrilineata was discovered in Guangxi in southern China, but this species lacks the dark spot on the base of the caudal fin.

This speces was originally described from a stream of the Chengjiang River at Chengjiang in Du'an County in Guangxi China. The Chengjiang River is a small northern branch of the Hongshuihe River, a tributary of the Xijiang in the Pearl River system. It has since been found in the Zuojiang and Youjiang rivers, also in Guangxi.
