Aphyocypris kyphus is a species of cyprinid in the genus Aphyocypris [1] that inhabits Vietnam. [1]
Aphyocypris is a genus of cyprinid fishes consisting of eight species, all of which are restricted to East Asia.
The Cyprinidae are the family of freshwater fishes, collectively called cyprinids, that includes the carps, the true minnows, and their relatives. Also commonly called the "carp family", or "minnow family", Cyprinidae is the largest and most diverse fish family and the largest vertebrate animal family in general, with about 3,000 species of which only 1,270 remain extant, divided into about 370 genera.. They range from about 12 mm to the 3-meter Catlocarpio siamensis. This family of fish is one of the few that do not take care of their eggs. The family belongs to the ostariophysian order Cypriniformes, of whose genera and species the cyprinids make more than two-thirds. The family name is derived from the Ancient Greek kyprînos.

The White Cloud Mountain minnow is practically extinct in its native habitat, due to pollution and tourism. It was believed to be extinct for over 20 years in 1980, but an apparently native population of this fish was discovered on Hainan Island, well away from the White Cloud Mountain. They are bred in farms and are easily available through the aquarium trade. However, inbreeding in farms has led to genetically weak stock that is vulnerable to disease and prone to physical deformities.
Acheilognathus kyphus is a species of freshwater ray-finned fish in the genus Acheilognathus. It is endemic to eastern Asia; inhabiting Thailand and northern Vietnam. However, due to a general lack of knowledge, IUCN has classified the fish as being data deficient. In Czech, Acheilognathus kyphus is known as "Hořavka thajská", meaning Thai bitterling.
As of March 2015, the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species identified 6087 data deficient species in the Chordata phylum.
Aphyocypris moltrechti, Moltrecht's minnow, is a species of cyprinid fish endemic to Taiwan. It was formerly considered to be the only species in the genus Pararasbora. The Endemic Species Research Institute under the Council of Agriculture of the Executive Yuan in Taiwan has enlisted Aphyocypris moltrechti as “precious and rare species” among other endemic freshwater species.
Aphyocypris lini, the garnet minnow or Venus minnow, is a species of cyprinid endemic to China. It was first collected from Hong Kong by A.W. Herre in 1936. The introduction of mosquitofish and habitat destruction caused the extirpation of this species from Hong Kong and the species was considered to be extinct in the wild. However, a similar species Aphyocypris pulchrilineata was discovered in Guangxi in southern China, but this species lacks the dark spot on the base of the caudal fin.
