Aqua Line of the Pune Metro is the second line of the city's mass transit network. It will run from Ramwadi to Vanaz via Mangalwar Peth and Deccan Gymkhana. The section from Vanaz to Garware College was inaugurated on 6 March 2022 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The section from Garware College to Ruby Hall Clinic was inaugurated on 1 August 2023, while the remaining stretch upto Ramwadi was opened on 6 March 2024. [1]

Route

The elevated line covers a distance of 14.66 km (9.11 mi) and will have 16 stations. It connects with the Purple Line and Line 3 at the Civil Court interchange station. The maintenance depot for the Aqua Line is located near the Vanaz station on the former garbage depot land. [2] [3]

Infrastructure

Signalling

The Aqua Line utilises the Alstom Urbalis 400 communications-based train control (CBTC) signalling system. Alstom was awarded a EUR90 million contract to supply the signalling and telecommunications systems for the Aqua and Purple Lines, as well as Mumbai Metro Line 2 and Line 7. [4] [5]

Line 7 (Red Line) of the Mumbai Metro is a rapid transit metro line in the city of Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. When completed, the 30.08 km (18.69 mi) line will connect Bhayander with the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport with 24 stations. Currently, the Purple Line is operational between PCMC and Civil Court, whereas, the Aqua Line operates between Vanaz and Ramwadi. This station will also serve as an future interchange for Aqua Line and Line 3 of Pune Metro. It is one of the deepest metro stations in India at the depth of 33m. The roof design of the station allows the sunlight to directly reach the underground platforms.

Though this stretch was inaugurated on March 6, 2024, pending works have forced this station to be exempted for commercial operations for more than a month, unlike the other three stations opened in this stretch inaugurated along with this station.
