Early life and education

Hariyani was born in Gujarat, India, into a business-oriented family. He Initially enrolled in a medical program before transitioning to architecture at CEPT University in Ahmedabad. [3] [6] At CEPT, he studied under prominent architects including B.V. Doshi, and Anant Raje and prominent painter and sculptor, Piraji Sagara.

As a part of the student exchange program he studied at ETH Zurich, in Switzerland which led to an early professional opportunity with Hassig Architecten. In 1989, he founded Hariyani Architects in Bhavnagar, India, leading a team of 25 and completing several residential and commercial projects. [7]

He later moved to the United States in 1990s to pursue a Master's degree in Urban Design and Planning at Syracuse University. He is also an alumnus of the Katz Graduate School of Business, where he completed an Executive MBA program. [8] [7]

Career

After practicing in India, the UAE and Switzerland, he joined the USA-based legacy firm Burt Hill architects in 1998. [5] As the firm expanded its international presence, he became a partner and served on its Board of Directors, contributing to its global design strategy. [9]

In 2007, he co-founded Burt Hill’s India and South Asia practice [10] along with Bindu Hariyani. Under their leadership, the practice grew to a multidisciplinary team of 50 professionals by 2019. [7]

Following the 2010–2011 merger of Burt Hill’s international practice with Stantec, the firm’s scope expanded to include larger and more complex global projects. [11]

In 2016, the studio underwent a restructuring and redefined its identity as INI Design Studio.

By 2024, INI Design Studio had expanded to a team of over 400 professionals. As a founding principal and director, Jayesh Hariyani has over three decades of experience in architecture, urban design, planning, and interior architecture. [12] He remains actively involved in managing major projects and contributing to the development of sustainable design practices at both national and international levels. [7]
