Shiv Nadar University (Institute of Eminence) is a private university located in Greater Noida, in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. [3] [4] It was founded in 2011 by Shiv Nadar, the founder and chairman of HCL. [5] [6] [7]

History

The university, established in 2011 on a 286-acre campus, had Nikhil Sinha as its first Vice-Chancellor. On 1 February 2016, Rupamanjari Ghosh succeeded him as the second Vice-Chancellor. [8] After completing her second term, she passed the leadership to Dr. Ananya Mukherjee on 31 January 2022. [9]

In May 2023, a student shot and killed another student before taking his own life. Reports indicated that the individuals had previously been engaged in a romantic relationship. [10] In an investigation after an FIR was filed by the Uttar Pradesh police, it was revealed that following their breakup, the victim had expressed concerns to administrators regarding the shooter's behavior. [11]

In 2024, the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranked Shiv Nadar University 95th overall in India and 62nd among universities. [12]

National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) is a ranking methodology released annually by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, to rank institutions of higher education in India. The framework was approved by the former Ministry of Human Resource Development and launched by the Minister on 29 September 2015.

Faculty of Pharmacy, Uttar Pradesh University of Medical Sciences, formerly Pharmacy College Saifai, is a government pharmacy college in Saifai, Etawah district of Uttar Pradesh, established in 2015. It is first grant-in-aid college run by Uttar Pradesh Government offering degree courses in Pharmacy.

Institutions of Eminence (IoE) is a recognition status set up in 2017 for higher education institutes in India, by the University Grants Commission. Recognised institutions are granted more autonomy, both administratively and academically, are allowed to open offshore campuses, and enjoy better collaboration opportunities with global universities. The plan encompasses twenty institutions, twelve of which have already been declared Institutes of Eminence as of April 2021. Public institutions are granted up to 1,000 crore ; no funding is awarded to private institutions. This scheme is equivalent to Russell Group Universities in the UK.
