Arara is a census village in Nalbari district, Assam, India. [2] According to the 2011 Census of India, Arara village has a total population of 2,823 people including 1,444 males and 1,379 females. [3]

The village has a history of being a militancy affected area. [4] In 2006, the security forces killed 2 ULFA militants, Bhupen Lahkar and Hemanta Deka, in Arara. [5]

The United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) (Assamese: সংযুক্ত মুক্তি বাহিনী, অসম) is an armed separatist organisation operating in the Northeast Indian state of Assam. Rajen Sharma, commonly known as Uddipta Hazarika, was the first publicity secretary of the militant organisation United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA). Popular for his poem Mor Rakta Borna Protigya, Sharma was killed on 8 October 1989.

Dr. Alaka Desai Sarma is a two-time MLA from the Nalbari constituency of Assam Legislative assembly, and a woman activist, who joined Asom Gana Parishad after her husband's death. Sarma first won the by-poll following the death of then MLA Nagen Sarma of the Nalbari constituency in 2000 for a period of 1 year. In 2001, Sarma lost to Indian National Congress candidate Madan Kalita. In 2006, Sarma won the Assam Legislative assembly election from the Nalbari constituency.

Bahjani is an urban locality and mouza, in Nalbari district, Assam, India. Bahjani includes the Pub Bahjani, Uttar Bahjani, and Dakshin Bahjani areas, with a total of 25 villages. As per the 2001 census the Bahjani locality had a population of 44,472 people. As per the 2011 census the Bahjani locality has a population of 47,696 people.
