Archytas araujoi is a species of parasitic fly in the family Tachinidae. [2] Psychocampa concolor is its host, with adult A. araujoi flies emerging from P. concolor pupae. [3]
The Tachinidae are a large and variable family of true flies within the insect order Diptera, with more than 8,200 known species and many more to be discovered. Over 1,300 species have been described in North America alone. Insects in this family commonly are called tachinid flies or simply tachinids. As far as is known, they all are protelean parasitoids, or occasionally parasites, of arthropods, usually other insects. The family is known from many habitats in all zoogeographical regions and is especially diverse in South America.
Calyptratae is a subsection of Schizophora in the insect order Diptera, commonly referred to as the calyptrate muscoids. It consists of those flies which possess a calypter that covers the halteres, among which are some of the most familiar of all flies, such as the house fly.
Bombyliomyia is a genus of flies in the family Tachinidae.
Patelloa is a genus of flies in the family Tachinidae.
Senostoma is a genus of parasitoid tachinid flies in the family Tachinidae. Endemic to Australasia, the flies are medium-sized, bristly, and long-legged.
Dexiinae is a subfamily of flies in the family Tachinidae.
Blondeliini is a tribe of parasitic flies in the family Tachinidae. Larvae are parasitoids of other insects, mostly beetles and caterpillars. Although nearly cosmopolitan, its greatest diversity is in the New World and especially in South America.
Phasiinae is a subfamily of flies in the family Tachinidae. Except for the small tribe Strongygastrini members of this subfamily attack only Heteroptera.
Archytas apicifer is a medium to large sized Nearctic tachinid fly. The species name was authored by the German entomologist Johann Friedrich Jaennicke (1867) and presumably named after the Greek classical philosopher and mathematician Archytas. The larvae are parasites of several caterpillar species.
Tachininae is a subfamily of flies in the family Tachinidae.
Tachinini is a tribe of flies in the family Tachinidae.
Archytas is a genus of flies in the family Tachinidae.
Polideini is a tribe of bristle flies in the family Tachinidae. The tribe is unusual for its diversity of hosts, including spiders, scorpions, and centipedes in addition to the usual insect larvae.
Archytas marmoratus, of the marmoratus species group, is a species of bristle fly in the family Tachinidae.
Archytas analis is a species of bristle fly in the family Tachinidae.
Archytas metallicus is a species of bristle fly in the family Tachinidae. It is found in North America.
Archytas rufiventris is a species of bristle fly in the family Tachinidae.
Archytas californiae is a species of bristle fly in the family Tachinidae.
Archytas lanei is a species of parasitic fly in the family Tachinidae.
Archytas sabroskyi is a species of parasitic fly in the family Tachinidae.
