The Sproing Award is awarded by Norsk Tegneserieforum (NTF), an organisation to promote interest and understanding for comics in Norway. Since 1987, the award has been presented for the Best Norwegian Strips, a comic strip or comic book by a Norwegian, and Best Translated Strips, an international comic strip/comic book translated into Norwegian. Since 2003, there has also been awarded a Sproing for Best Comics Debut.

Øyvind Sørensen was a Norwegian illustrator. He was born in Fredrikstad. He worked most of his career as an illustrator for the newspaper Aftenposten, over a period of fifty years, and also for satirical magazines. His works are represented in various museums and institutions, including the National Gallery of Norway, Oslo Bymuseum and Bergen Museum.
Solveig Muren Sanden was a Norwegian illustrator and comics artist. She was born in Vrådal in Kviteseid. She published her first illustration in the children's magazine Norsk Barneblad in 1932. She is known for the comics series Tuss og Troll and Smørbukk. In 1973 she was the first recipient of Norwegian Ministry of Culture's comics prize. A bronze sculpture of "Smørbukk", made by Trygve Barstad, was unveiled in Vrådal in 2012.
Johan Wilhelm Eide was a Norwegian printer, book publisher and newspaper publisher.
Steffen Kverneland is a Norwegian illustrator and comics writer. He was born in Haugesund, and settled in Oslo from 1987. He has specialized on creating comics series based on classical literature. Among his early albums are De knyttede never from 1993 based on a novel by Øvre Richter Frich, and four volumes of Amputerte klassikere.
Terje Nordberg is a Norwegian comics artist, comics writer and magazine editor. He lives in San Jose, California with his wife Nancy. He is also a painter having painted scenes of California, often with whimsical cows.

Ragnar Pedersen was a Norwegian illustrator, known by his pen name "Joker", text writer, magazine editor and revue writer. He was from Oslo, and settled in Fredrikstad from 1972.
Leif Raa was a Norwegian illustrator and cartoonist. He studied at the Bergen National Academy of the Arts, and from 1956 to 1998 he worked as illustrator for the newspaper Bergens Tidende. He started drawing commercials, and from 1962 he was freelancer for the editorial staff until 1975, when he was appointed a permanent position with the newspaper. His cartoons could be either editorial comments or news comments, and he also reported from several travels in European countries. In addition to the newspaper works he also illustrated books and designed book covers.
Tore Bernitz Pedersen was a Norwegian illustrator and comics artist. He was born in Oslo and was educated at the Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art Industry and the Regent Street Polytechnic Art School in London. He created the comics strip Doktor Fantastisk, in cooperation with Axel Jensen, Roar Høiby and Terje Brofos, which was published in the newspaper Dagbladet, and he has been illustrator for the newspapers Aftenposten and Fredriksstad Blad. Among his book illustrations are Alf Prøysen's songbook Fra Hompetitten til bakvendtland, historical books by Georg Apenes, and Olav Angell's books about the city of Oslo.

Louis Moe was a Norwegian painter, illustrator and writer who settled in Denmark.
Smørbukk is a Norwegian comic strip. It was started in 1938 by text writer Andreas Haavoll and illustrator Jens R. Nilssen. The first Smørbukk story was based on the fairytale Buttercup collected by Asbjørnsen and Moe. The strip appears in the children's magazine Norsk Barneblad, as well as in separate albums. From 1959/1960 to 1983 the series was illustrated by Solveig Muren Sanden. Later text writers have been Øyvind Dybwad and Johannes Farestveit. From 1983 Håkon Aasnes took over as illustrator. The anniversary book Smørbukk 70 år was published in 2008.
