The Sydney Sixers is an Australian professional franchise men's cricket team,competing in Australia's domestic Twenty20 cricket competition,the Big Bash League (BBL). Along with the Sydney Thunder,the Sixers are the successors of the New South Wales Blues who played in the now-defunct KFC Twenty20 Big Bash. The Sixers play at Sydney Cricket Ground at Moore Park in Sydney's eastern suburbs,whilst the Thunder play at the Sydney Showground Stadium in the city's western suburbs. The inaugural coach was Trevor Bayliss,who was replaced in 2015 by current coach Greg Shipperd. The Sixers' inaugural captain was Australian wicket-keeper Brad Haddin. Both Steve Smith and Moises Henriques have also spent time captaining the team.
Kurtis Robert Patterson is an Australian cricketer who plays for the New South Wales cricket team in the Sheffield Shield,and the Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League. Patterson scored a century on his first-class cricket debut for New South Wales in November 2011,becoming the youngest batsman to score a century in Sheffield Shield cricket. In January 2019,he made his Test debut for Australia against Sri Lanka,becoming the 457th person to play test cricket for Australia. He made a century in just his second test match in Canberra,also against Sri Lanka. He was not selected for the 2019 Ashes series and returned to play domestically in the 2019/2020 season. He has the highest average of any Test batsman who has lost their wicket at least once.
The 2014–15 Big Bash League season or BBL|04 was the fourth season of the Big Bash League (BBL),the premier Twenty20 cricket competition in Australia. The fourth edition ran from 18 December 2014 to 28 January 2015. The league ran two weeks longer as compared to the previous season. The opening match of the 2014–15 Big Bash League was played between Adelaide Strikers and Melbourne Stars on 18 December at the Adelaide Oval. The format of fourth season is same as previous season. A total of 35 matches will be played during the Big Bash 2014–15 season.
Alexander Ian Ross is an Australian cricketer. The son of a cricket coach,Ross started playing domestic cricket for South Australia in 2012,having moved to the state in 2009 with his father. He began to rise to prominence in the 2014–15 season when,after improved form in both first-class and List A cricket,he began playing for the Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League. In his first match of BBL|05 he scored 65 runs off 31 balls,making excellent use of the sweep shot and earning the moniker "sweepologist". Jake Richard Doran is an Australian cricketer who plays for Tasmania. He previously represented Sydney Thunder and Hobart Hurricanes. He is the youngest player to be signed to a Big Bash League contract. Doran is the younger brother of cricketer Luke Doran and attended The Hills Sports High School.
The Women's Big Bash League is the Australian women's domestic Twenty20 cricket competition. The WBBL replaced the Australian Women's Twenty20 Cup,which ran from the 2007–08 season through to 2014–15. The 2021–22 Big Bash League season or BBL|11 was the eleventh season of the Big Bash League,the professional men's Twenty20 domestic cricket competition in Australia. The tournament was played from 5 December 2021 and finished on 28 January 2022. The Perth Scorchers defeated the defending champions Sydney Sixers by 79 runs in the final to claim their fourth title.
The 2022–23 Sydney Sixers Women's season was the eighth in the team's history. Coached by Charlotte Edwards and captained by Ellyse Perry,the Sixers finished the regular season of WBBL|08 in first position and set a new league record with eleven wins. They consequently qualified for their fifth Final appearance,returning to the knockout phase of the tournament for the first time since WBBL|04. In the championship decider,held at North Sydney Oval,the Sixers were defeated in an upset by the Adelaide Strikers.
The 2022–23 Sydney Thunder Women's season was the eighth in the team's history. Coached by Trevor Griffin,the Thunder finished the regular season of WBBL|08 in last place. After missing the entirety of WBBL|07 due to family reasons,captain Rachael Haynes returned to the team in 2022–23 for her final season,having announced her impending retirement from professional cricket.
