Arjun Nair (born 12 April 1998) is an Australian cricketer. [1] [2] He is of Indian descent. [3]
Nair is an all-rounder who bats in right hand and bowls right arm off-spin.
Nair was born on 12 April 1998 in Canberra,Australia to parents of Indian descent who moved to Australia from Tripunithura,Kerala. [4] [3] He graduated from Patrician Brothers' College,Blacktown in 2015. [5]
Nair started playing cricket at the age of three,with formal coaching starting at the age of four under Coach Ganesh. [4] Displaying early talent,he was playing under-10s cricket by the age of six. [4] At 13,Nair commenced playing Grade cricket and progressed to First Grade cricket at 15,making him the youngest player of Indian background to compete in Sydney's First Grade and the ninth youngest in its 120-year history. [4]
Nair,a right-hand top-order batsman and off-spin bowler,had notable achievements in Australian junior cricket by the age of 17. [4] He was a standout performer in the 2015 All Schools Under-19 championship,scoring five centuries in the Green Shield championship. [4] His performance in the Green Shield championship included an aggregate of 996 runs from 21 matches. [4] Additionally,he took a six-wicket haul in the Under-19 National Championship in Adelaide,earning him the player of the final award. [4]
Nair's consistent performance in junior cricket led to several accolades,including the Rising Star and Sports Person of the Year awards from Patrician Brothers College,and the Sports Person of the Year 2013 from Richmond. [4] He was also named the Sports Person of the Year in the 2012 Wenty Leagues. His performance earned him selection in the Australian Under-19 team for the junior Ashes series in the UK,where he debuted with a four-wicket spell against England. [4]
Nair was selected in National Performance Squad of Australia when he was 19 years old. [6] He made his first-class debut for New South Wales in February 2016 in the 2015–16 Sheffield Shield against South Australia at International Sports Stadium,Coffs Harbour. [7] Later,he became part of the Sydney Thunder squad in the Big Bash League. He made his Twenty20 (T20) debut for Sydney Thunder in the 2016–17 Big Bash League season on 22 December 2016. [8]
In 2018,Nair was banned for bowling for three months due to illegal bowling action. [9]
The Sydney Sixers is an Australian professional franchise men's cricket team,competing in Australia's domestic Twenty20 cricket competition,the Big Bash League (BBL). Along with the Sydney Thunder,the Sixers are the successors of the New South Wales Blues who played in the now-defunct KFC Twenty20 Big Bash. The Sixers play at Sydney Cricket Ground at Moore Park in Sydney's eastern suburbs,whilst the Thunder play at the Sydney Showground Stadium in the city's western suburbs. The inaugural coach was Trevor Bayliss,who was replaced in 2015 by current coach Greg Shipperd. The Sixers' inaugural captain was Australian wicket-keeper Brad Haddin. Both Steve Smith and Moises Henriques have also spent time captaining the team.
Kurtis Robert Patterson is an Australian cricketer who plays for the New South Wales cricket team in the Sheffield Shield,and the Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League. Patterson scored a century on his first-class cricket debut for New South Wales in November 2011,becoming the youngest batsman to score a century in Sheffield Shield cricket. In January 2019,he made his Test debut for Australia against Sri Lanka,becoming the 457th person to play test cricket for Australia. He made a century in just his second test match in Canberra,also against Sri Lanka. He was not selected for the 2019 Ashes series and returned to play domestically in the 2019/2020 season. He has the highest average of any Test batsman who has lost their wicket at least once.
The 2014–15 Big Bash League season or BBL|04 was the fourth season of the Big Bash League (BBL),the premier Twenty20 cricket competition in Australia. The fourth edition ran from 18 December 2014 to 28 January 2015. The league ran two weeks longer as compared to the previous season. The opening match of the 2014–15 Big Bash League was played between Adelaide Strikers and Melbourne Stars on 18 December at the Adelaide Oval. The format of fourth season is same as previous season. A total of 35 matches will be played during the Big Bash 2014–15 season.
Alexander Ian Ross is an Australian cricketer. The son of a cricket coach,Ross started playing domestic cricket for South Australia in 2012,having moved to the state in 2009 with his father. He began to rise to prominence in the 2014–15 season when,after improved form in both first-class and List A cricket,he began playing for the Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League. The 2022–23 Sydney Thunder Women's season was the eighth in the team's history. Coached by Trevor Griffin,the Thunder finished the regular season of WBBL|08 in last place. After missing the entirety of WBBL|07 due to family reasons,captain Rachael Haynes returned to the team in 2022–23 for her final season,having announced her impending retirement from professional cricket.
