Arya Rajendran S. (born 12 January 1999) is an Indian politician who currently serves as the mayor of the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation. [3] [4] [5] [6] She was elected from Mudavanmugal ward, belonging to Nemom Assembly Constituency from Communist Party of India (Marxist) at the age of 21 and was appointed as the mayor of the corporation which made her the youngest mayor in the country. Personal life and education

Arya Rajendran is the daughter of Rajendran, an electrician, and Sreelatha, an LIC agent. [8] [9] She did her schooling from Carmel Girls Higher Secondary School, Thiruvananthapuram. [10] She is married to K. M. Sachin Dev, who is the member of Kerala Legislative Assembly from Balussery constituency. [11]

Politics

Arya Rajendran was the state president of Bala Sangham, the Kerala's largest children's organisation. [9] [12] She was also a state committee member of Students' Federation of India [8] [13] [14] and also serves as CPI(M)'s area committee member at Chala. [3]

She was the candidate of Communist Party of India (Marxist) from Mudavanmugal ward in Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, the youngest candidate in 2020 civic body elections at the district. [10] [15] [16] She defeated the UDF candidate Sreekala by 2872 votes. [8]

Arya broke the record of Sabitha Beegum who became Kollam Mayor at 23 [17] and Devendra Fadnavis by being the youngest mayor in India. [18] [19] Fadnavis became the mayor of Nagpur Municipal Corporation at the age of 27. [20] [21]

Controversies

On 29 April 2024, She and her husband, K. M. Sachin Dev, blocked a Kerala State Road Transport Corporation Super Fast bus amidst service and having passengers onboard, with her private car and allegedly abused the bus driver. Arya accused the bus driver to have shown her obscene hand signs whilst driving. She was booked by the Cantonment police under non-bailable provisions as per the directions of the Thiruvananthapuram Judicial First Class Magistrate Court. [22] [23] [24] [25] [26] [27] [28]

Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is a state-owned road transport corporation in the Indian state of Kerala. It is one of the country's oldest state-run public bus transport services. The corporation is divided into three zones, and its headquarters is in the state capital Thiruvananthapuram. Daily scheduled service has increased from 1,500,000 kilometres (930,000 mi) to 1,700,000 kilometres (1,100,000 mi), using 5400 buses on 4500 routes. Vellarada is a border village situated in Thiruvananthapuram district in the state of Kerala, India. It is 42 km from Thiruvananthapuram. It is the southernmost part of Kerala state, sharing its border with Tamil Nadu. Vellarada is said to be the threshold to the high-range areas of the eastern part of Thiruvananthapuram district. The southernmost point of Western Ghats in Kerala is near Vellarada.

Balasangam is an Indian children's organization wing of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPIM). It has about a million members in about 20,000 units across Kerala. Balasangham is the largest children's groups in Kerala, and its kalajatha Venalthumbikal is the biggest children's theater in Asia. The first Balasangham started its operations on 28 December 1938, at Kalliasseri of Chiraykkal panchayath in Kannur. E.K. Nayanar was the first president of Balasangham. First state conference was held at Kottayam and second at Pilicode, Kasaragod. The third state conference was held in October 2014 in Palakkad. The fourth state conference was held in December 2016 in Perinthalmanna in Malappuram. Kerala State Road Transport Corporation SWIFT, also known as K-SWIFT, is an Indian transport company formed for operating long-distance buses of Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC). The company was formed on 9 November 2021 with an aim to overcome the financial crisis faced by the KSRTC. K-SWIFT functions independently within the KSRTC and the company will be dissolved and the assets merged with the KSRTC in 2031.
