Mohammad Ashfaq Ahmed (born 26 March 1985), commonly shortened as Ashfaq Ahmed or Mohammad Ashfaq, is a Pakistani-born cricketer who played for the United Arab Emirates national cricket team. [1]

In Pakistan

In a Twenty20 match for Lahore Eagles against Rawalpindi Rams, Ashfaq scored 99 runs not out off 58 balls. He reached 99 when Lahore still needed three runs for victory, then Rawalpindi bowler Najaf Shah deliberately bowled a wide ball down the leg side which went for four runs, handing Lahore the victory but preventing Ashfaq from scoring his maiden century. So upset were the Lahore team with this negative tactic that they refused to shake hands with the Rawalpindi players. [2] [3]

In the UAE

Ashfaq made his List A debut for the United Arab Emirates against Nepal in the 2015–17 ICC World Cricket League Championship on 6 December 2017. [4]

In January 2018, he was named in the UAE's One Day International (ODI) squad for the tri-series against Ireland and Scotland. [5] He made his ODI debut against Ireland in the tri-series on 11 January 2018. [6] Later the same month, he was named in the UAE squad for the 2018 ICC World Cricket League Division Two tournament. [7]

In August 2018, he was named in the UAE squad for the 2018 Asia Cup Qualifier tournament. [8]

He made his Twenty20 International (T20I) debut for the UAE in a one-off match against Australia on 22 October 2018. [9]

In December 2018, he was named in the United Arab Emirates' team for the 2018 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup. [10] He was the leading run-scorer for the United Arab Emirates in the tournament, with 167 runs in three matches. [11]

In September 2019, he was named in the United Arab Emirates' squad for the 2019 ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier tournament in the UAE. [12] Ahead of the tournament, the International Cricket Council (ICC) named him as the player to watch in the UAE's squad. [13] However, on 21 October 2019, he became the fourth UAE cricketer to be suspended by the ICC, following an investigation into corruption. Ahmed had played in the first two matches for the team in the tournament. [14] In September 2020, Ahmed was charged under the ICC's anti-corruption rules, and was suspended from cricket with immediate effect. [15] In July 2021, the ICC banned him from all cricket for eight years, backdated to 13 September 2020. [16]

Qadeer Ahmed Khan is a Pakistani-born cricketer who played for the United Arab Emirates national cricket team. He made his One Day International debut for the United Arab Emirates against Hong Kong in the 2015–17 ICC World Cricket League Championship on 18 November 2015. Muhammad Usman is a Pakistani-born cricketer who plays for the United Arab Emirates national cricket team. He retired from cricket in October 2019, mid-way through the 2019 ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier tournament, and in September 2021, he was handed a four-year ban from the sport in relation to corruption.

The 2019 ICC Men's T20 World Cup Qualifier was a cricket tournament held during October and November 2019 in the United Arab Emirates to determine which teams would qualify for the 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup tournament. The six teams finishing highest in the qualifier tournament joined Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in the first group stage of the 2020 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. The tournament formed part of the ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier series, with the Netherlands winning the final.

Later the same month, he was named in the UAE's squad for the 2020 Under-19 Cricket World Cup.

Aryan Lakra is an Indian-born cricketer who plays for the United Arab Emirates national cricket team. He was named as the captain of the United Arab Emirates squad for the 2020 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. He took twelve wickets in the six matches he played in the tournament.

Rahul Bhatia is a cricketer who plays for the United Arab Emirates national cricket team. In May 2022, he was named in United Arab Emirates' One Day International (ODI) squad for the 2022 United States Tri-Nation Series. He made his ODI debut on 1 June 2022, against the United States. Before making his ODI debut, he had previously played for the United Arab Emirates XI team, also against the United States, during the USA's tour of the UAE in March 2019.
