Dual player or dual star is a term used in Hiberno-English to describe someone who competes in multiple sports — for example, in Victorian Ireland, cricket and hurling. The term today in Gaelic games typically describes a male player who plays both Gaelic football and hurling or, if a female player, a player of ladies' Gaelic football and camogie. The player does not necessarily have to play at the same standard in both sports. The number of dual stars at county level has decreased recently due to the increasing demands placed upon the best players of both sports.
Killeagh GAA club is a hurling and Gaelic football club located in the small village of Killeagh in east County Cork, Ireland. The club is affiliated with the East Cork division of Imokilly and the Cork county board.
Rena Buckley is an Irish sportswoman who played at senior level for both the Cork county ladies' football team and the Cork county camogie team. She has also represented Munster in the Gael Linn Cup and Ireland at international rules. Between 2005 and 2017 she won 18 All-Ireland winners medals - the most All-Ireland senior medals any one person has ever won - making her one of the most decorated sportspeople in Gaelic games. In 2012 she captained Cork when they won the All-Ireland Senior Ladies' Football Championship and in 2017 she captained Cork when they won the All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship. She was the first player to captain Cork to both All-Ireland senior championships. She was also named as an All Star on eleven occasions. In 2015 Buckley and her team mate and fellow dual player, Briege Corkery, were named joint winners of the 2015 The Irish Times/ Sport Ireland Sportswoman of the Year Award.
Jennifer Duffy is a camogie player, footballer and winner of 3 All Ireland camogie medals in 2009. A former student at Cork IT, she is the holder of All-Ireland championship and league medals with CIT as well as Senior and Junior All-Ireland championship medals and National League. She won a Senior county championship with her club and captained CIT to the Ashbourne Shield title in 2006. She is the holder of one All Ireland senior club championship medal (2010) and one All Ireland intermediate club championship medal (2006) with Inch Rovers Ladies Football Club, Cork. She is the holder of a Gael Linn inter provincial senior medal and won player of the tournament (2009). She captained her province in the Inter provincial Gael Linn championship on two occasions.
Síle Burns is a camogie player and a physiotherapist, winner of All Ireland camogie medals in 2008, when she scored two goals in the final, and 2009 and a camogie All Star award winner in 2008.
Katrina Mackey is a camogie player and scientist. Winner of All Ireland Camogie medals in 2009, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2023 and 2024. Anne Dalton is a camogie player and student. She is an All-Ireland winning medalist 2016, winner of five camogie All Star awards in 2009, 2010, 2014, 2016 and 2017. She played in the 2009 All Ireland camogie final.
Katie Power is an All-Ireland- and All Star-winning camogie player who plays for Piltown and Kilkenny.
Mary Geaney is an Irish sportswoman. She played senior ladies' Gaelic football for Kerry, senior camogie for Cork and is also a former Ireland women's field hockey international. In 1976 she captained Kerry when they won the All-Ireland Senior Ladies' Football Championship and in 1980 she captained Cork when they won the All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship. She was the first player to captain a team to both championships. As a field hockey international, she was a member of the Ireland team that won the 1983 Women's Intercontinental Cup. In 2010 she was inducted into the Irish Hockey Association Hall of Fame.
Clíodhna O'Connor is a former senior Dublin ladies' footballer. She was a member of the Dublin team that won the All-Ireland Senior Ladies' Football Championship in 2010. She also played for Dublin in the 2003, 2004, 2009 and 2014 finals. She captained Dublin during the 2011 season. In 2004 and 2009 she was selected as an All Star and in 2010 she was included in the LGFA/TG4 Team of the Decade. She also played for the Ireland women's international rules football team. Since retiring as a player, O'Connor has coached Ladies' Gaelic football and hurling. She was a member of the coaching team at Cuala when they won the 2017 and 2018 All-Ireland Senior Club Hurling Championship Finals. In 2019 she became a member of the Dublin senior hurling team coaching staff.
Anna Geary is a retired camogie player and television personality from Milford, County Cork, Ireland.
Kate Kelly is a camogie player, winner of nine All-Star awards in 2004, 2006, 2007, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2016. In 2007, she helped Wexford win their first All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship in 32 years. and further All Ireland medals in 2010, 2011 and 2012 when she was player of the match in the All Ireland final.
Milford GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association based in the village of Milford, County Cork, Ireland. The club participates in competitions organized by Cork GAA county board and the Avondhu divisional board. The club fields hurling and camogie teams, and Gaelic football under the name Deel Rovers.
