Asian University (Asian U), formerly the Asian University of Science and Technology, was founded in 1993, initially with the academic co-operation of Imperial College London. It was an international university using English as the language of instruction for all programs. Asian University was on the eastern seaboard, a 30 km drive from the seaside resort of Pattaya and two hours from Bangkok. In 2017, the university council submitted the request to cease its operation through Office of the Higher Education Commission, Ministry of Education due to financial reasons. Its degree accreditations remain valid and were ratified by Office of the Civil Service Commission (OCSC) and Office of the Higher Education Commission (OHEC). [1]

The permission to cease its operation was granted by H.E.Teerakiat Jaroensettasin, the minister of education at a time and university was officially closed in August 2017. [2]

History

The privately owned university was founded when Lord Oxburgh, then rector of Imperial College London, signed the memorandum of understanding (MOU) in Bangkok to provide support for Asian University. Sir Edward Parkes, KBE, one of the UK's foremost academics, played an important role as chairman of the academic advisory board as Asian University took on its final form. The founding chairman was H.E. Anand Panyarachun, Hon. KBE and a former prime minister. The school first opened its doors to students in 1998 and closed in August 2017 due to financial reasons.

The university originally focused on health sciences but expanded to other fields in recent decades. It hosted Thailand's first medical school, the Siriraj Medical School. Today, Mahidol offers a range of graduate and undergraduate programs from natural sciences to liberal arts with remote campuses in Kanchanaburi, Nakhon Sawan, and Amnat Charoen provinces. There are a total of 629 programs offered from 17 faculties, 6 colleges, 9 research institutions and 6 campuses. In terms of fiscal budget and portion of budget spent on research programs, the university receives the highest budget of any public university in Thailand: $430 million in 2019, most of which is granted for graduate research programs. Mahidol University was ranked Thailand's #1 university in 2011 by QS Asian University Rankings.

Independent University, Bangladesh

Independent University, Bangladesh or IUB is a private university in Bangladesh. It is located in Bashundhara Residential Area of Dhaka, Bangladesh. It was established in 1993 under the Private University Act, 1992. With an explicit focus on Research and Global partnerships. IUB has an enrollment of 7,378 students, 11,556 alumni and 401 faculty members. The campus is spread over three acres and is well-equipped with an amphitheatre, a library, state-of-the-art laboratories and more than 70 classrooms. The university is committed to research and global partnerships. This is why students are encouraged to engage in research projects, alongside conventional classroom-based learning. The Independent University has academic research collaborations with a number of prestigious universities including Harvard University, Stanford University and the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Asia-Pacific International University

Asia-Pacific International University is a private Christian university located in Saraburi, Thailand. Its main campus is in the rural town of Muak Lek, Saraburi Province and the nursing school is located on the grounds of Bangkok Adventist Hospital in downtown Bangkok. It is the only tertiary education institution serving the Southeast Asia Union Mission of Seventh-day Adventists. Asia-Pacific International University was formerly called Mission College until mid-2009 when it was granted university status. It is a part of the Seventh-day Adventist education system, the world's second largest Christian school system.

Zayed University

Zayed University is a public university based in the United Arab Emirates. It was established in 1998. It is one of the three government-sponsored higher education institutions in the United Arab Emirates. It is named in honor of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the country's first president.

Payap University, established in 1974, is a private and non-profit institution founded by the Foundation of the Church of Christ in Thailand. Payap University is a liberal arts and pre-professional school offers a doctoral degree in peacebuilding; masters in divinity, linguistics, TESOL, law, MBA and music; and bachelor degrees in arts, sciences, accountancy, business, economics nursing, law, and Christian theology. Payap is a founding member of the Association of Private Higher Education Institutions in Thailand and an active member of the Association of Christian Universities and Colleges in Asia, as well as the Association of Southeast Asian Institutions of Higher Learning.

Royal University of Dhaka (RUD) is a non-profit, non-sectarian, private university in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The University Grants Commission (UGC) approved the academic programs on July 30, 2003, and on August 30, 2003, the Ministry of Education approved RUD under the Private University Act, 1992. RUD started functioning in 2004. Momtaz Begum, a philanthropist and social worker, is the founder chairperson. RUD operates at two campuses: the city campus and the permanent campus. Kasem Bundit University (KBU) is a private university in Thailand. Established in 1987, it offers academic programs at graduate and undergraduate levels.

Hatyai University is a private university in Hat Yai, Songkhla Province, Thailand. Founded in 1997, the university offers undergraduate programs through its seven faculties: business administration, law, education and liberal arts, science and technology, political science, communication arts, and Didyasarin International College. Its graduate school offers in education administration, business administration programs, and doctoral programs.

Shinawatra University

Shinawatra University (SIU) is a private international university in Thailand, established by Dr.Thaksin Shinawatra and his colleagues. The campus was designed and developed by Soontorn Boonyatikarn in 1997. The Ministry of Universities granted the license for operation in 1999. The first Shinawatra University Council Meeting was held on 19 May 2000, and the first batch of students was admitted in September 2002. As of 2018, the university had students and faculty members of over 30 nationalities.

Webster University Thailand

Webster University Thailand (WUT) is an international campus of Webster University from Webster Groves, Missouri, US. The US-based non-profit university established its international campus in Thailand in 1999 with an undergraduate campus near the resort town of Hua Hin in the district of Cha-am, and additional graduate and undergraduate programs in Bangkok, Thailand. The facility in Thailand is one of several international campuses associated with Webster University. The Rector of the Thailand campus is Dr. Ryan V. Guffey. The campus officially closed on December 31st, 2021.

Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation Autonomous University in Lucena City, Philippines

Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation (MSEUF) also known as Enverga University is a private, non-sectarian university, which is situated mainly in Lucena, Quezon. It has satellite campuses in Candelaria, Catanauan, Sampaloc, San Antonio, and Calauag which are located in the province of Quezon, Philippines. The university is named after to its founder, Atty. Manuel S. Enverga. The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK) is a self-financing university in Hong Kong located in Siu Lek Yuen, Sha Tin, New Territories. It was founded as Hang Seng Management College in 2010 by the Hang Seng School of Commerce and was granted university title in 2018.

Soegijapranata Catholic University

Universitas Katolik Soegijapranata (Unika) or Soegijapranata Catholic University (SCU) is a leading Catholic institution with an institutional accreditation of A. It is located in the city of Semarang, Central Java and under the auspices of the Sandjojo Foundation which is affiliated with Archdiocese of Semarang. The university is a continuation of the Indonesian Catholic University of Atmajaya Semarang Branch, which was born in 1964 and later changed its name into the Semarang Catholic Institute of Technology (I.T.K.S.) in 1973. On August 5, 1982 with the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia dated September 24, 1983 Number 0400/0/1983, I.T.K.S. changed its name into Soegijapranata Catholic University.

Multimedia University Private research Upuniversity in Malaysia

Multimedia University, abbreviated as MMU, is the oldest and first ever full-fledged private research university in Malaysia and a government-linked university as it is owned by Telekom Malaysia. It was founded in 1997, so it is considered a young medium university with a concentration in technology and multimedia disciplines. The university hosts ten faculties and Institute of Postgraduate Studies.

Mahidol University International College University college in Thailand

Mahidol University International College is Thailand's first public international college. It is part of Mahidol University and is located on the university's Salaya Campus in Nakhon Pathom Province.
