Atvars Tribuncovs (born October 14, 1976) is a professional ice hockey player. He competed for Latvia at the 2002 and 2006 Winter Olympics. [1] Tribuncovs is currently playing for Arystan Temirtau in the Kazakhstan Hockey Championship league.

The men's ice hockey tournament at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway, was the 18th Olympic Championship. Sweden won its first gold medal, becoming the sixth nation to ever win Olympic ice hockey gold. The tournament, held from 12 February to 27 February, was played at the Fjellhallen in Gjøvik and the Håkons Hall in Lillehammer. There was no women's tournament at the Olympics until 1998.
Helmuts Balderis-Sildedzis is a former Soviet and Latvian professional ice hockey player. He played on the right wing and participated at the 1980 Winter Olympics, where the Soviet team unexpectedly lost to the United States. He played part of a single season in the National Hockey League after being drafted in 1989 by the Minnesota North Stars, becoming the oldest player to be drafted by an NHL team at the age of 36. In 1998, he was inducted into International Ice Hockey Federation Hall of Fame.

Aleksandrs Beļavskis is a former Latvian/Soviet ice hockey player and captain of team Latvia, and current coach for the Latvia men's national ice hockey team. He played for two clubs for most of his player career Dinamo Riga where he started his professional career in 1985 and IF Björklöven. He was a prolific goal scorer and skilled playmaker.

Latvia competed at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, from 7 to 23 February 2014. The Latvian team consisted of 58 athletes in nine sports. These were the third consecutive games the country qualified to send 58 athletes.
The 2021 IIHF World Championship took place from 21 May to 6 June 2021. It was originally to be co-hosted by Minsk, Belarus and Riga, Latvia, as the IIHF announced on 19 May 2017 in Cologne, Germany. Their joint bid won by a very tight margin against the Finnish bid with the cities of Tampere and Helsinki. On 18 January 2021 the IIHF decided to remove Belarus as a co-host due to the rising political unrest and COVID-19 concerns there. On 2 February, the IIHF voted to confirm Latvia as the sole host for the 2021 IIHF World Championship.
Leonīds Janis Vedējs was a Latvian ice hockey defenceman. He played with the Latvia men's national ice hockey team at the 1936 Winter Olympics held in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany. He was the flag bearer of the Latvian delegation at the opening ceremony as well as the captain of the hockey team.
