History

The company's history began in 1978 when Soetikno Tanoko started a wood and metal paint production business in Sidoarjo. Three years later, he expanded into wall paint with the launch of the Avitex brand. In 1983, the business was officially registered as a private limited company under the name PT Avia Avian. Two years later, the company began producing automotive paint. [3]

In 1987, the company expanded its Sidoarjo factory. Five years later, it began producing its own paint cans. In 1996, the company opened a new factory in Serang, and four years after that it established PT Tirtakencana Tatawarna to manage product distribution. In 2005, the company introduced its waterproofing products under the No Drop brand, and six years later it launched its mortar products under the Giant Mortar brand.[ citation needed ]

In 2014, the company increased its annual production capacity for wall paint and waterproofing to 80,000 metric tons. In 2015, it entered the pipe manufacturing business with the launch of the Power brand. [4] Two years later, the company's production capacity rose by an additional 50,000 metric tons per year, and through Archipelago Investment, the GIC acquired a 10 percent stake in the company. In 2018, the company inaugurated the Avian Tower in Surabaya. [5] In 2019, the company signed a non-exclusive licensing agreement with The Walt Disney Company to allow the use of Disney characters, logos, and brands on its wall paint products.

In 2021, together with Saint-Gobain, the company established PT Bangun Bersama Solusindo to develop cement-based leak-proof coatings under the Pro-X brand. [2] [1] In the same year, it also acquired a 67 percent stake in PT Multipro Paint Indonesia, a company engaged in the production of protective and marine coatings. [6] In 2023, the company began constructing a new factory in Cirebon with an annual capacity of 100,000 metric tons on an 11-hectare site. [7]
