Avinash Dharmadhikari is a former Indian Administrative Services officer. [1] He was a well known social activist and free-lance journalist before joining IAS. After serving on various posts during his administrative career of ten years he resigned from IAS in 1996 for the reason that can be best described in Arun Shourie's words "to be able to serve Indian society better". [2] He was Deputy Secretary to the Chief Minister of Maharashtra at the time of his resignation. [3] He is founder and director of Chanakya Mandal Pariwar,working in the field of Career Guidance and Personality Development. He unsuccessfully contested for Lok Sabha as an independent candidate against Suresh Kalmadi. [4] He was Director General of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan in 2001 under Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs,Government of India. As a social activist he has been part of many movements such as farmers' movements and movements against corruption. He was also a part of Team Anna during India against corruption movement. [5] He has authored many books which includes 75 Soneri Pane,Aswastha Dashakachi Diary,Nava Vijaypath,Ek Vijaypath,Swatantra Nagarik,Jinkanara Samaj Ghadawanari Shikshanpadhhati,Aani Aapan Saglech,Ratra Gahirichya Tisarya Prahari(a collection of poems). Aswastha Dashakachi Diary has been translated into English by Gauri Deshpande titled:Diary of a Decade of Agony. [6] [7]

He joined the IAS in 1986. [8]
In his administrative career he had been known for his efficient,transparent and creative work in Maharashtra. During these ten years he had served on many posts such as –Sub-Divisional officer,Phaltan;Officer on Special Duty for state's Chief Secretary;Director,State Archives,Mumbai;CEO at Ratnagiri and Amaravati zilla parishads;Additional Collector,Pune; [9] Director,Women and Child Welfare Dept,Maharashtra;District Collector,Raigad (Alibag);Deputy Secretary to Chief Minister,Maharashtra. [8]
After resigning from IAS in 1996,he founded Chanakya Mandal Pariwar,a network organization working in the field of Career Guidance,Competitive Exam (Civil Services Examination) Training,Entrepreneurship Building and Personality Development. On 31 December 2014,the 14th Dalai Lama inaugurated a new building of Chanakya Mandal Pariwar and lauded Avinash Dharmadhikari's commitment to serve the nation through youth education. [10]
Dharmadhikari contested the Pune Lok Sabha seat in 1998 as an independent candidate and lost. [8]
In March 2009,Dharmadhikari joined the Shiv Sena and remained a member until April 2011. [11]
After Arvind Kejriwal,Yogendra Yadav and some other members separated from Anna Hazare to form the Aam Aadmi political party.In November 2012,Dharmadhikari joined the Team Anna movement against the then UPA-II government and proposed Jan Lokpal Bill [12]
Bal Keshav Thackeray,also known as Balasaheb Thackeray,was an Indian politician who founded the Shiv Sena,a right-wing pro-Marathi and Hindu nationalist party active mainly in the state of Maharashtra.
Shiv Sena is a right-wing Marathi regionalist and Hindu ultranationalist political party in India founded in 1966 by Bal Thackeray. Currently led by Eknath Shinde,this party is the ruling party of the Indian state of Maharashtra since 2019. Shiv Sena's election symbol is the Bow and Arrow. It uses the saffron colour in its flag and a image of a roaring tiger.
Sharadchandra Pawar is an Indian politician. He has served as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra for four terms and has also served in the Union Council Of Ministers as the Minister of Defence in the Cabinet of P.V Narsimha Rao and Minister of Agriculture in the Cabinet of Manmohan Singh. He is the first and former president of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP),which he founded in 1999,after separating from the Indian National Congress. The Nationalist Congress Party is one of the state parties in India. It refers to the Ajit Pawar faction after the 2023 split in the party when the Supreme Court of India granted the original party name and symbol to the Nationalist Congress Party. It was one of the major political parties in Maharashtra and was a recognised state party in Nagaland and Kerala. In July 2023,majority of the elected MLAs and MLCs of the party led by Ajit Pawar joined the National Democratic Alliance government,however,all MPs except two remained loyal to Sharad Pawar. This caused a direct split between the Ajit Pawar-led faction and the founder and president Sharad Pawar who formed the Nationalist Congress Party after EC recognised the Ajit Pawar faction as the original party.
Manohar Gajanan Joshi was an Indian politician from the state of Maharashtra,who served as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra from 1995 to 1999,and Speaker of the Lok Sabha from 2002 to 2004. He was one of the prominent leaders of the Shiv Sena,and also one of the Indians to be elected to all of the four legislatures.
Arun Gulab Gawli also known as Arun Gulab Ahir,is an Indian politician,underworld don and retired gangster. Gawli and his brother Kishor (Pappa) entered the Mumbai underworld in the 1970s,when they joined the "Byculla Company",a criminal gang led by Rama Naik and Babu Reshim,operating in the central Mumbai areas of Byculla,Parel and Saat Rasta. In 1988,after Rama Naik was killed in a police encounter,Gawli took over the gang and began operating it from his residence,Dagdi Chawl. Under his control,the gang controlled most criminal activities in the central Mumbai areas. Throughout the late eighties and nineties,Gawli's gang was involved in a power struggle with Dawood Ibrahim's D-Company gang. Gawli is also the founder of the Akhil Bharatiya Sena political party based in Maharashtra.

The city is known for the Hapus or Alphonso mangoes. Ratnagiri is the birthplace of Indian independence activist Lokmanya Tilak. Thibaw,the last king of Burma,alongside his consort Supayalat and two infant daughters were exiled to a two-storied brick mansion in Ratnagiri. The building is now known as Thibaw Palace. For his third term,he was elected on the Indian National Congress ticket. In Nimhan was defeated in the 2014 assembly elections. He has since then returned to the Shivsena.
