Presidential elections were held in Azerbaijan on 11 October 1998. [1] The result was a victory for Heydar Aliyev of the New Azerbaijan Party, who won 77.6% of the vote. Voter turnout was reported to be 78.9%. [2]
Azerbaijan, officially the Republic of Azerbaijan, is a country in the South Caucasus region of Eurasia at the crossroads of Eastern Europe and Western Asia. It is bounded by the Caspian Sea to the east, Russia to the north, Georgia to the northwest, Armenia to the west and Iran to the south. The exclave of Nakhchivan is bounded by Armenia to the north and east, Iran to the south and west, and has an 11 km long border with Turkey in the northwest.
Heydar Alirza oglu Aliyev was an Azerbaijani politician who served as the third President of Azerbaijan from October 1993 to October 2003. As national president he held constitutional powers, but his influence on Azerbaijani politics had begun years earlier. As a young man he had joined the Azerbaijan SSR People's Commissariat for State Security (NKGB) and quickly rose to the rank of Major-General.
The New Azerbaijan Party is the ruling political party in Azerbaijan. It was formed on 18 December 1992 by the former President of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev, who led it until his death in 2003. It is now led by his son, Ilham Aliyev, who succeeded his father as the party leader and as President of Azerbaijan since 2003.

The Greens of Andorra is a green political party in Andorra.
Parliamentary elections were held in Azerbaijan on 5 November 2000, although a re-run had to be held in 11 constituencies on 7 January 2001 due to "massive irregularities". The result was a victory for the New Azerbaijan Party, which won 75 of the 125 seats.
The Prime Minister of Azerbaijan is the head of government of Azerbaijan. The current prime minister is Novruz Mammadov.
Parliamentary elections to the National Assembly of Azerbaijan were held in Azerbaijan on 12 November 1995, with a second round on 26 November. However, the results were declared invalid due to fraud in 15 constituencies, with fresh elections held on 4 February 1996. The result was a victory for the New Azerbaijan Party, which won 59 of the 125 seats. Voter turnout was 86.1% for the proportional representation part of the elections.
Presidential elections were held in Azerbaijan on 7 June 1992, the first in more than seventy years not held under communist control. Five candidates were on the ballot, seeking election to a five-year term. The election featured the unprecedented use of television, posters, and other media by multiple candidates to communicate platforms and solicit votes.
Yaqub Javad oglu Mammadov, also spelled as Yagub Mammadov, was the Acting President of Azerbaijan from 6 March to 14 May and from 18 to 19 May 1992. Mammadov is currently an opposition politician, professor and scientist.

Constitutional Convention elections were held in Iran on 3 and 4 August 1979. The result was a victory for the Islamic Republican Party. 10,784,932 voted in the elections, marking 51.71% turnout. Of all members elected, 68% were clerics.
General elections were held in Jordan on 29 August 1951. As political parties were banned at the time, all candidates ran as independents, although some affiliated with the Jordanian Communist Party, the Ba'ath Party the Arab Constitutional Party and the Umma Party all won seats.

A national vote of confidence in President Abulfaz Elchibey was held in Azerbaijan on 29 August 1993 after a coup d'état in June. Voters were asked "Do you trust the President of the Azerbaijan Republic?" Only 2% of voters voted "yes", with turnout reported to be 91.6%. Elchibey was formally removed from office on 1 September.
A constitutional referendum was held in Azerbaijan on 12 November 1995 alongside the first round of parliamentary elections. Voters were asked the question "Do you agree to the adoption of the draft of the first national Constitution of the Azerbaijan Republic presented by the Commission headed by the President of the Azerbaijani Republic Heydar Aliyev, which has prepared the new constitutional draft of the Azerbaijani Republic?" The result was 91.9% in favour, with turnout reported to be 86.1%.
Presidential elections were held for the first time in Azerbaijan on 8 September 1991. The only candidate was Ayaz Mutalibov of the Azerbaijan Communist Party, who won with 98.5% of the vote, with turnout reported to be 85.7%.

General elections were held in Portugal on 28 April 1918, following a coup by Sidónio Pais in December 1917. The elections were boycotted by the Democratic Party, the Evolutionist Party and the Republican Union, who had won over 90% of the seats in the 1915 elections.
