Azhikodan Raghavan was a leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)).
He was born on 1 July, 1919, in South Bazar, Kannur. [1]
In 1940, he was groomed into a true communist by comrades P. Krishna Pillai and N.C.Shekhar. He was chosen to be the secretary of the Kannur town branch committee in 1946. In June 1951, he was chosen to be the member of the Malabar Committee of the Communist party and re-elected to the post. [1] By that time Azhikodan had left his mark in Kerala politics. He was the secretary of the co-ordination committee of the coalition ministry of 1967. [4]
Com. Azhikodan was stabbed to death in 1972. [2] [5] It is believed that fake news spread in Thrissur may have led to the murder of Azhikodan. There are also allegations raised by Nawab Rajendran that K. Karunakaran had a role in the murder. [5]
He was cremated in the public graveyard of Payyambalam beach, Kannur district, Kerala, where a column has been erected in his memory. [6]
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) (abbreviated as CPI(M)) is a communist political party in India. It is the largest communist party in India in terms of membership and electoral seats, and one of the national parties of India. The party was founded through a splitting from the Communist Party of India in 1964 and it quickly became the dominant faction.
Kannoth Karunakaran was an Indian politician who served as the chief minister of Kerala in 1977, from 1981 to March 1982, from May 1982 to 1987 and from 1991 to 1995. Erambala Krishnan Nayanar was an Indian politician who served as the 9th chief minister of Kerala from 1980 to 1981, 1987 to 1991 and again from 1996 to 2001. He served in that position for a total of 10 years, 11 months and 22 days, thus making him the longest-served Chief Minister of Kerala. He was a senior leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist).
Communist Marxist Party (CMP) was a political party in Kerala. The party was founded in 1986 when M. V. Raghavan was expelled from the CPI(M) due to a grave difference of opinion regarding the formation of alliances with the IUML. His support for forming a united front with parties such as the Indian Union Muslim League in order to take on alliances led by the INC was ultimately rejected by the CPI(M) leadership. He was subsequently expelled from the Party.

Vijayaraghavan is an Indian politician belonging to the Communist Party of India (Marxist), and was the Convener of Left Democratic Front in Kerala and former Acting Secretary of CPI(M) Kerala State Committee. He was born at Malappuram district. He was a Member of the Parliament of India representing Kerala in the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Parliament. He was the chairman of parliamentary committees on Subordinate Legislation and General Assurances, He was also the Chief Whip of CPI(M) in Rajya Sabha. Kannoth Muraleedharan is an Indian National Congress politician. He was the MP from Vatakara, Kerala. He lost the 2024 Lok Sabha election from Thrissur constituency. He is the son of Congress leader K. Karunakaran. He was elected as an MP from Kozhikode constituency and from Vatakara constituency (2019). He was elected as an MLA from Vattiyoorkkavu constituency.
Melathu Veettil Raghavan was a veteran Communist leader and a former Minister in Kerala state of India. He was the General Secretary of the CMP, an alliance partner in the UDF. Prior to the formation of the CMP he was a prominent leader of the CPI(M).
K. Radhakrishnan is an Indian politician who is the CPI(M) Parliamentary Party Leader in 18th Lok Sabha and Member of the Lok Sabha for Alathur since 2024. T. P. Chandrasekharan was an Indian politician who was the founder of Revolutionary Marxist Party (RMP), a breakaway group of Communist Party of India (Marxist).
