The badminton competition at the 1998 Commonwealth Games took place at the Kuala Lumpur Badminton Stadium in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 11 September until 21 September 1998. [1] There were no bronze medal play off matches because both losing semi-finalists were awarded a bronze medal.

The 1998 Commonwealth Games(Malay: Sukan Komanwel 1998), officially known as the XVI Commonwealth Games(Malay: Sukan Komanwel ke-16), was a multi-sport event held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This edition is marked by several unprecedented facts in the history of the event. The 1998 games were the first held in an Asian country and the last Commonwealth Games of the 20th century. This was also the first time the games took place in a nation with a head of state other than the Head of the Commonwealth, and the first time the games were held in a country whose majority of the population did not have English as the first language. For the first time ever, the games included team sports. The other bid from the 1998 games came from Adelaide in Australia. Malaysia was the eighth nation to host the Commonwealth Games after Canada, England, Australia, New Zealand, Wales, Jamaica and Scotland. Around 3638 athletes from 70 Commonwealth member nations participated at the games which featured 214 events in 15 sports with 34 of them collected medals.

Aparna Popat is a former Indian badminton player. She was India's national champion for a record equaling nine times when she won all the senior national championships between 1997 and 2006.

Donna Victoria Kellogg, is an English former badminton player. She is the European Champion, winning the women's doubles titles in 2000, 2006 and the mixed doubles title in 2008. She won the silver medal at the 2006 World Championships. Kellogg also won the women's doubles title at the 1998 Commonwealth Games, and was part of the England winning team at the 1998 and 2002 Commonwealth Games.

The 1982 Commonwealth Games was held in Brisbane, Australia, from 30 September to 9 October 1982. The Opening Ceremony was held at the QEII Stadium, in the Brisbane suburb of Nathan. The 2017 ASEAN Para Games, officially known as the 9th ASEAN Para Games, was a Southeast Asian disabled multi-sport event held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 17 days after the 2017 Southeast Asian Games from 17 to 23 September 2017. Peter Knowles is a former English badminton player. He competed for Great Britain at the 1996 and 2000 Summer Olympics. He also represented England at the 1994 and 1998 Commonwealth Games, winning a mixed team gold in 1994, and a men's team bronze medal in 1998. Knowles who played for Kent badminton won the men's singles title at the National Championships in 1997, and has been capped 39 times for England.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Soh Wooi Yik</span> Malaysian badminton player

Soh Wooi Yik is a Malaysian badminton player. He was part of the Malaysian 2015 and 2016 BWF World Junior Championships team, and has helped Malaysia clinch a silver medal in mixed team after being defeated by China in 2016. Soh and his partner Aaron Chia were the All England Open finalists and the SEA Games gold medalists in 2019. The duo won the bronze medal in the men's doubles at the 2020 Summer Olympics, and won the men's doubles title at the 2022 World Championships, becoming the first ever Malaysian badminton player to win at the prestigious event.

Sara Sankey née Sara Halsall is a retired English badminton player.

Mark J Constable is a retired male badminton player who has represented England and Jersey. He won the English National Badminton Championships men's singles title in 2002 and represented Team England 27 times in various team events spreading over Sudirman Cup, Thomas Cup, Commonwealth Games and other international matches.
