Balchladich (Scottish Gaelic : Baile a' Chladaich) is a remote township in the Assynt district of Sutherland, Scottish Highlands and is in the Scottish council area of Highland. [1] [2]

Assynt is a sparsely populated area in the south-west of Sutherland, lying north of Ullapool on the west coast of Scotland. Assynt is known for its landscape and its remarkable mountains, which have led to the area, along with neighbouring Coigach, being designated as the Assynt-Coigach National Scenic Area, one of 40 such areas in Scotland.
Sutherland is a historic county, registration county and lieutenancy area in the Highlands of Scotland. Its county town is Dornoch. Sutherland borders Caithness to the east, Ross-shire to the south and the Atlantic to the north and west. Like its southern neighbour Ross-shire, Sutherland has some of the most dramatic scenery in the whole of Europe, especially on its western fringe where the mountains meet the sea. Aird of Sleat is a village on the Isle of Skye in Scotland. It is situated at the southern end of the Sleat peninsula, 4 miles (6.4 km) south-east of Ardvasar and Armadale, at the end of a minor road. Lying 2 miles (3.2 km) from Point of Sleat, it is the southernmost settlement on Skye. The village is home to the Aird Old Church which is now converted into an art gallery.

In recent history it was the central township of Glen Brittle, with the post office and school for the community. It was once a thriving community before the effects of the highland clearances and depopulation of the highlands and islands took place, and many ruined houses can be seen among the existing houses.
