The Bangabandhu Cup 2024 International Kabaddi Tournament is an International Kabaddi Tournament organised by Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation in Bangladesh. The 4th season of Bangabandhu Cup (Kabaddi) this tournament will be commenced from 26th May to 3rd June 2024. The event will take place in Dhaka, Bangladesh. A total of 12 teams across several continents (Asia, Europe and Africa) are set to participate in the Bangabandu Kabaddi Cup. [1] [2] [3] [4]

Contents

Bangladesh are the previous champions of the Bangabandhu Cup (Kabaddi). They won the title for the 3rd time in 2023, defeating Chinese Taipei in the final. [5]

Kabaddi is a contact team sport played between two teams of seven players, originating in ancient India. The objective of the game is for a single player on offence, referred to as a "raider", to run into the opposing team's half of the court, touch out as many of their players as possible, and return to their own half of the court, all without being tackled by the defenders in 30 seconds. Points are scored for each player tagged by the raider, while the opposing team earns a point for stopping the raider. Players are taken out of the game if they are touched or tackled, but return to the game after each point scored by their team from a tag or tackle.

Located in the Motijheel area of Dhaka, it is predominantly used for football matches and serves as the home venue for the Bangladesh national football team. The stadium is well known for hosting a high-profile international friendly between Argentina and Nigeria in 2011.

The 2006 AFC Challenge Cup was held between 1 and 16 April 2006 in Bangladesh. Sixteen teams were split into four groups, the top two in each group qualifying for the quarterfinals, and from then on a straight knockout contest. There was no qualification stage. The cup winner was Tajikistan. The fair play award was won by Sri Lanka and Tajik Ibrahim Rabimov won the most valuable player award.

The 2003 South Asian Football Federation Gold Cup was held in Dhaka, Bangladesh between 10 January 2003 and 20 January 2003. All matches were played at the Bangabandhu National Stadium. Originally scheduled to be held between 26 January 2002 and 5 February 2002, the tournament was postponed due to the suspension of Bangladesh Football Federation by FIFA. Afghanistan were not in the draw, but were included in the tournament following an AFC recommendation to do so. It was also Bhutan's first tournament.

Kabaddi, is a contact sport, native to the Indian subcontinent. It is one of the most popular sports in India, played mainly among people in villages. India has taken part in four Asian Games in kabaddi, and won gold in all of them. Four forms of kabaddi played in India are Amar, Suranjeevi, huttuttoo, and Gaminee. Amar is generally played in Punjab, Haryana, the United States, Canada, and other parts of the world, mostly by Punjabi sportsmen. Suranjeevi is the most played form of kabaddi in India and the world. This is the form used in international matches generally and played in Asian Games. Huttuttoo was played by men in Maharashtra. In Gaminee style, seven players play on each side and a player put out has to remain out until all his team members are out. The team that is successful in outing all the players of the opponent's side secures a point. The game continues until five or seven such points are secured and has no fixed time duration.

The 2013–14 season in Bangladesh was the fourteenth in which first-class cricket was played at the domestic level. The main domestic competitions were the National Cricket League (NCL), the Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) and the Dhaka Premier League. The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) was cancelled. Internationally, there were tours by New Zealand and Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh hosted both the 2014 Asia Cup and 2014 ICC World Twenty20 tournaments. The season was disrupted by civil and political disturbances caused by issues arising from the 2014 Bangladeshi general election.

The Bangladesh Premier League 2019–20, also known as BPL Season 7 or Bangabandhu BPL Presented by AKASH DTH and Powered by TVS, was the seventh season of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), the top level professional Twenty20 cricket league in Bangladesh. The competition was organised by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). The season was scheduled to originally start from 6 December 2019 and end on 11 January 2020, with the opening ceremony to be held on 3 December 2019. Comilla Victorians were the defending champions. The Dhaka Platoon, formerly known as the Dhaka Dynamites, is a franchise cricket team that plays in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), representing the country's Dhaka Division. The Bangabandhu Cup 2021 International Kabaddi Tournament is an International Kabaddi Tournament organised by Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation in Bangladesh. This tournament will be conducted marking the birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. This tournament will also mark the return of International Kabaddi after being hit by global Corona Virus pandemic. The 1st season of Bangabandhu Cup (Kabaddi) this tournament will be commenced from 28th March to 2nd April 2021. The event will take place in Dhaka, Bangladesh. A total of 5 teams across several continents are set to participate in the Bangabandu Kabaddi Cup.
