Barbara Ehardt is an American politician and former college basketball coach serving as a member of the Idaho House of Representatives from the 33rd district.
Ehardt was born and raised in Idaho Falls,Idaho. She earned an associate degree in general studies from North Idaho College and a Bachelor of Science degree in English and language arts education from Idaho State University,where she played on the Idaho State Bengals women's basketball team. [1]
For 15 years,Ehardt worked as an NCAA Division I women's basketball coach at California State University,Fullerton,the University of California,Santa Barbara,Brigham Young University,and Washington State University. [2] [3]
In 2003,Ehardt returned to her hometown of Idaho Falls,Idaho,where she has since operated a sports camp for children and managed basketball programs. Ehardt was appointed to the Idaho House of Representatives on December 27,2017. In November 2019,Ehardt was labelled "a Republican lightning rod" by East Idaho News. During her first term in the House,she authored a bill that would restrict statewide sex education. [4]
In the legislature,Ehardt sponsored a bill that would required transgender athletes to play on teams corresponding to the gender they were assigned at birth. The bill has attracted significant criticism,both within Idaho and nationally. [5] [6] [7] [8] [9] [10] Ehardt was interviewed as a part of the HBO series Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel ,in which she defended the bill. [11]

It prohibits sex-based discrimination in any school or any other education program that receives funding from the federal government. Rebecca Rose Lobo-Rushin is an American television basketball analyst and former women's basketball player in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) from 1997 to 2003. Lobo,at 6'4",played the center position for much of her career. Lobo played college basketball at the University of Connecticut,where she was a member of the team that won the 1995 national championship,going 35–0 on the season in the process. Lobo was inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 2010. Lusia Mae Harris was an American professional basketball player. Harris is considered to be one of the pioneers of women's basketball. She played for Delta State University and won three consecutive Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) National Championships,the predecessors to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) championships,from 1975 to 1977. In international level,she represented the United States' national team and won the silver medal in the 1976 Olympic Games,the first women's basketball tournament in the Olympic Games. She played professional basketball with the Houston Angels of the Women's Professional Basketball League (WBL) and was the first and only woman ever officially drafted by the National Basketball Association (NBA),a men's professional basketball league. For her achievements,Harris was inducted to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and Women's Basketball Hall of Fame.

Transphobia in the United States has changed over time. Understanding and acceptance of transgender people have both decreased and increased during the last few decades depending on the details of the issues which have been facing the public. Various governmental bodies in the United States have enacted anti-transgender legislation. Social issues in the United States also reveal a level of transphobia. Because of transphobia,transgender people in the U.S. face increased levels of violence and intimidation. Cisgender people can also be affected by transphobia.
The Fairness In Women's Sports Act is a common title for legislation passed in Idaho,Florida,and Arkansas that restricts participation in interscholastic,intercollegiate,intramural,club athletic teams,and any sports sponsored by a public school or university based on the biological sex of the individual. The legislation was introduced in response to concerns that allowing transgender females to compete in women's sports would create an unfair advantage due to their physiological differences. Legislation of this nature has been introduced in several states across the US and is part of a national debate over whether transgender athletes should be allowed to compete in sports teams based on their gender identity. Supporters of the laws argue that it is necessary to maintain fair competition and protect the integrity of women's sports,while opponents argue that they are discriminatory and unjust. Much of the current legislation is facing legal challenges and criticism from advocates for transgender rights,who argue that they perpetuate harmful stereotypes and ignore the diversity of gender identities.
Lucille Kyvallos is a former women's collegiate basketball coach. Kyvallos coached the Queens College women's basketball team from 1968 through 1981. She is a member of the New York City Basketball Hall of Fame. She served as chair for the Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW)'s basketball committee and tournament director for the AIAW national championship in 1973. She coached the first women's college basketball game to be played at Madison Square Garden on February 22,1975.
