Basketball is one of the 26 sports scheduled for the 2019 Pacific Games which will be held in Apia, Samoa.
The 8 teams will be split into two pools of four where round-robin matches will be played with the top two from each pool advancing to the semi-finals or the medal play-offs.
For the first time ever, teams would have to qualify for the event in order to participate in the basketball competition either for men or women through sub-zone qualification tournaments in Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia. [1] [2]

The Cook Islands national football team is the men's football team that represents the Cook Islands in international competition since 1971. It is governed by the Cook Islands Football Association which is part of the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) and FIFA.
The FIBA Oceania Women's Championship was the women's basketball continental championship of Oceania, played biennially under the auspices of the Fédération Internationale de Basketball, the basketball sport governing body, and the Oceanian zone thereof. The tournament also serves to qualify teams for participation in the quadrennial FIBA World Championship for Women and the Olympic basketball tournament.

Australia subdued New Zealand in the Finals, 93–55, to take the Gold Medal and the fifth consecutive U17 title. Both teams will now move on to the 2018 FIBA Under-18 Asian Championship which in turn the qualifying tournament for the 2019 FIBA Under-19 Basketball World Cup

Matches were played at the Taurama Aquatic and Indoor Centre. It was officially launched on 19 May 2017.

The 3x3 format of the game had been introduced to the Pacific Mini Games in 2017, but this was the first time it had been contested at the main Pacific Games.
