Baxada Futebol Clube or Baixada Fluminense (named after the lowlands of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) or Beira Mar de Cova Figueira is a football (soccer) club that currently plays in the Fogo Island League in Cape Verde. It is based in the town of Cova Figueira in the island of Fogo and plays in the stadium with a capacity of 2,000. The club was founded on February 27, 2001. Baxada became a registered club in 2010 and first competed in the 2010-11 season.

Cape Verde or Cabo Verde, officially the Republic of Cabo Verde, is an island country spanning an archipelago of 10 volcanic islands in the central Atlantic Ocean. It forms part of the Macaronesia ecoregion, along with the Azores, Canary Islands, Madeira, and the Savage Isles. In ancient times these islands were referred to as "the Islands of the Blessed" or the "Fortunate Isles". Located 570 kilometres (350 mi) west of the Cape Verde Peninsula off the coast of Northwest Africa, the islands cover a combined area of slightly over 4,000 square kilometres (1,500 sq mi).

Cova Figueira is a city in the southeastern part of the island of Fogo, Cape Verde. In 2010 its population was 1,230, making it the most populated place in the municipality. It is situated 22 km east of the island capital São Filipe. Since 2005, it serves as the seat of Santa Catarina do Fogo Municipality. Its elevation is 480 meters above sea level. The volcano Pico do Fogo is 7.7 km to the northwest. Nearby places include Figueira Pavão in the southwest, Mãe Joana and Estância Roque in the west and Tinteira in the north. Cova Figueira was elevated to a city in 2010.

Fogo is an island in the Sotavento group of Cape Verde. Its population is 35,837 (2015), with an area of 476 km². It reaches the highest altitude of all the islands in Cape Verde, rising to 2,829 metres above sea level at the summit of its active volcano, Pico do Fogo.

The club rarely plays at Estádio Monte Pe Largo which is in Cova Figueira, the club plays at Estádio 5 de Julho in São Filipe along with the municipality's other clubs.

Estádio 5 de Julho is a multi-purpose stadium in São Filipe, Cape Verde just east of the city center known as Bila Baxo and is near Alto da Aguadinha. It is currently used mostly for football matches. The stadium holds 1,000 people. The stadium is named with the date of Cape Verdean independence.

São Filipe is a city on the west coast of the island of Fogo, Cape Verde. It is the capital of the island, and the seat of the São Filipe Municipality. The island's airport, São Filipe Airport, is located on the southeastern edge of the town and the island's port is 4 km north of the center at Vale de Cavaleiros. The town's elevation is 20 meters.

History

In 2011, the club cebrated its 10th anniversary of its foundation.

In 2012, Baxada started last, then 8th when they did not played the match against Botafogo and were later awarded against. Baxada was kept in last place from week 3 for four rounds. A win over Luzabril put up two positions to 8th and then 9th place which started during a scoreless draw with Botafogo. No further wins were made after round 9. Baxada did not played the 15th round match with Valência and was later awarded against. On April 8, Baxada lost to Luzabril 3-1 and was the last match played at the division for two season and Baxada was unable to play two more rounds and were awarded against, two rounds before the end, they lost a position and finished last and was relegated.

Baxada suffered and had to play in the Second Division for the next two years. In the 2014 season, Baxada won the Second Division title and gained an re-entry into the Premier Division.

The club came back to the Premier Division for the 2014-15 season, for the next two seasons, they finished above the 50/50 zone at eight place. In 2015, they scored 26 goals and conceded 65 goals and had 11 points three wins and two draws, it was a little better in 2016 as they had 18 points with six wins and 12 losses and scored 38 goals and conceded 54 goals.

Baxada had a moderate start to the 2016-17 season, they lost the first match, they won the second round match on December 4 and defeated Juventude 4-2 and is the only win to date, a week later, the club suffered and was put in the last two positions and in March inside the relegation zone, the worst came on March 18 where they lost to Cutelinho 10-0 and conceded the most at the time, it became third, later on April 16 when they lost to No Pintcha dos Mosteiros 4-11 and was the club's second worst, Baxada is kept in the relegation zone as last placed Juventude has no win. The worst came for Baxada as on the final regional match on April 23, the club sufferably lost to Académica do Fogo 14-0 and could be the worst match for the club, overall it became second to Second Division's Nova Era's win over Brasilim. The club conceded 96 goals and is one of the worst of any club in Fogo behind Parque Real's 104 goals conceded in 2015. Baxada had been relegated and finished 9th and participated in the Second Division in the following season as atwo additional clubs competed in the Second Division in the following season.

Baxada again is a club of the Second Division, the club played in Group B which includes clubs from the east of the island. Baxada finished with 19 points, originally finished second in the first phase, two points more than Esperança, before April, as in a seventh round match between Esperança and Figueira Pavão who was new to the Second Division, that match ended 1-0, Figueira Pavão thought they fielded an ineligible player and Esperança was awarded 0-3, the award became informal. The award was definitely revoked. Baxada officially finished second and regained qualification into the second phase. One possibility they will regain entry into the Premier Division next season.
