Belarus is an Eastern European country with a rich tradition of folk and religious music. The country's folk music traditions can be traced back to the times of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. The country's musical traditions spread with its people to countries like Russia, Canada, United States, Kazakhstan and Latvia. The people of Belarus were exposed mostly to Russian pop music during this period and also after independence in 1991. In 2002, however, President Alexander Lukashenko has signed a decree requiring 50% of all FM broadcast music to be Belarusian in origin, and since January 1, 2005 the rule was made even stricter. However, it does not regulate the language of the songs, so most of the music which is broadcast is still in Russian.
Belarus has participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in every edition since its inception in 2003 until 2020. The Belarusian Television and Radio Company (BTRC), then a member organisation of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), has been responsible for the selection process of its participants since its debut. The country hosted the contest at the Minsk-Arena in 2010 and again in 2018.
Ukraine has participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest since 2006. Ukrainian public broadcaster Suspilne, formerly UA:PBC, has been responsible for the participation. Ukraine won the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2012 with the song "Nebo" performed by Anastasiya Petryk. Her sister, Viktoria Petryk, reached 2nd place at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2008 with "Matrosy".

The Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2010 was the eighth edition of the annual Junior Eurovision Song Contest and took place in Minsk, Belarus. It was held on 20 November 2010. This was the fifth time that the competition was held on an open-air stage. Germany previously hosted the contest in 2002.
Belarus participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 in Copenhagen, Denmark. The Belarusian entry was selected through a national final, organised by Belarusian broadcaster National State Television and Radio Company of the Republic of Belarus (BTRC). Teo represented Belarus with the self-composed song "Cheesecake" with lyrics by Dmitry Novik. The song qualified from the second semi-final to compete in the final. Belarus placed 16th in the final, scoring 43 points.

The United Kingdom has participated in the biennial classical music competition Eurovision Young Musicians 15 times since its debut in 1982, most recently taking part in 2018 after a 8-year absence. The United Kingdom hosted the inaugural contest in 1982 and won the contest in 1994. The country returned to the contest in 2018 as hosts.
France has participated in the biennial classical music competition Eurovision Young Musicians 9 times since its debut in 1982. France won the contest in 1986, and hosted the most recent event in 2022 in Montpellier.
Serbia and Montenegro made their Eurovision Young Musicians debut and only participation at the Eurovision Young Musicians 2006, where they failed to qualify for the final.

The Eurovision Young Musicians 2016 was the eighteenth edition of the Eurovision Young Musicians contest, which took place on 3 September 2016, outside the Cologne Cathedral, in Cologne, Germany. For a second consecutive time, German public broadcaster Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR) was the host broadcaster for the event, with Daniel Hope and Tamina Kallert being the presenters for the show. Musicians representing eleven countries with European Broadcasting Union (EBU) membership, participated in the contest, with San Marino making their debut, while Greece, Moldova, Netherlands, and Portugal withdrew from participation. The candidates were accompanied by the WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne, conducted by Clemens Schuldt. A five-person jury decided which of the participants would be awarded with the top-three prizes. Łukasz Dyczko of Poland won the contest, with Czech Republic and Austria placing second and third respectively.
Belarus participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 with the song "Help You Fly" written by Viktor Drobysh, Alexander Ivanov, Timofei Leontiev and Mary Susan Applegate. The song was performed by Ivan, which is the artistic name of singer Alexander Ivanov. The Belarusian entry for the 2016 contest in Stockholm, Sweden was selected through a national final organised by the Belarusian broadcaster National State Television and Radio Company of the Republic of Belarus (BTRC). The national final consisted of ten competing acts participating in a televised production where public televoting selected the winner. "Help You Fly" performed by Ivan was selected as the winner with 23,167 votes.
Belarus participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 with the song "Story of My Life" written by Arciom Lukjanienka. The song was performed by Naviband. The Belarusian entry for the 2017 contest in Kyiv, Ukraine was selected through a national final organised by the Belarusian broadcaster National State Television and Radio Company of the Republic of Belarus (BTRC). The national final consisted of thirteen competing acts participating in a televised production where the winner was determined by a 50/50 combination of votes from jury members made up of music professionals and a public telephone vote. "Historyja majho žyccia" performed by Navi was selected as the winner. The song's title was later translated from Belarusian to English for the Eurovision Song Contest and was titled "Story of My Life".
The Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2018 was the sixteenth edition of the annual Junior Eurovision Song Contest, organised by the Belarusian Television and Radio Company (BTRC) and the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). It took place in the Belarusian capital city, Minsk on 25 November 2018 at the Minsk-Arena. It was the second time that the contest was held in Belarus, after it staged the 2010 edition at the same venue.
"Like It" is a song performed by Belarusian singer Zena. It represented Belarus in the Eurovision Song Contest 2019. The song was performed during the first semi-final on 14 May 2019, and qualified for the final, where it finished in 24th place with 31 points.
