Bella Vista High School is a public high school in Fair Oaks, California. It is a member of the San Juan Unified School District and serves eastern Fair Oaks and southern Orangevale. In 2003, the California Department of Education's School Recognition Program honored Bella Vista High School as a "California Distinguished School". [3] It was also the only school in Sacramento County to receive this honor in 2003. [4] In 2009, it received the same recognition again from the California Department of Education. On November 18, 2010, the school celebrated its 50th anniversary with a special presentation for all past and current students. The presentation included a guided tour of the school spotlighting where changes have been made throughout the campus since the school's foundation in 1960.

Curriculum

Bella Vista offers ten AP courses. A special business course called Advanced Computer Applications is available to qualified students who, once completed, will be eligible for three units of credit at Sacramento State University through the Accelerated College Entrance off-campus program. It is one of the few campuses in its district to offer Japanese. Other foreign languages include French and Spanish.

Extracurricular activities

The academic decathlon team has represented Sacramento County in the California Academic Decathlon for 20 out of the past 24 years. In 2008, the team took back the county title after placing third in 2007. In 2009 they won the county again but were defeated in 2010 by rival Folsom High School. In 2011, Folsom again took first place in the county competition, but in 2012 Bella Vista regained their title. [5]

The moot court team earned the first-place team award at the National High School Moot Court Competition in Washington, D.C. in 2003, 2005 and 2006. [6] In 2008, 2011, 2016, and 2020 they received 1st place in the county competition.

Bella Vista's Marching Band was recognized by Sacramento Magazine as one of the best marching bands in the Sacramento area in 2004 [7] and 2005. [8] Under the direction of Edward Moore, the band has accumulated hundreds of trophies and has competed out of state and even in Europe in 2006.[ citation needed ] They were also undefeated in their division in 2009. Two years later, in 2011, the band also went undefeated in their division, except for one judging error causing them to lose to the Del Oro marching band.

The school newspaper is known as La Bandera, while the school yearbook is called La Remuda.

Southwest [Senior] High School (SHS), in San Diego, California, United States, is a high school established in 1975. It was built on the site of a small railroad yard owned by the Southern Pacific Railroad along the original San Diego-Tijuana line. It existed until the mid-1930s when the tracks were moved east to the present-day Trolley tracks. Part of the Sweetwater Union High School District, it serves all socioeconomic communities of San Diego, as well as some students living in Chula Vista, Imperial Beach and San Ysidro. The school serves approximately 1,750 students. Sacramento Knights was an American soccer team based in Folsom, California, United States. Founded in 2003, the team played in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL), a national amateur league at the fourth tier of the American Soccer Pyramid, until 2008, when the franchise folded and the team left the league. It has been announced that the team will play its 2009 season at Folsom High School as part of the United Soccer League.

Westminster High School is a public high school located in Westminster, California. It is part of the Huntington Beach Union High School District. It is currently the only school within the Huntington Beach Union High School District to have a working farm as well as the largest school in Orange County. Westminster High School has a rivalry against Ocean View High School, where both schools battle it off during football season in the “Battle of the Bugle”.

Acalanes High School is a public secondary school located in Lafayette, California, United States, in the San Francisco Bay Area, within Contra Costa County. Acalanes was the first of four high schools established in the Acalanes Union High School District. It was built in 1940 on what was then a tomato field, using federal government funds with labor provided by the Works Project Administration, the largest and most ambitious New Deal agency introduced by the Roosevelt administration. Lafayette businessman M.H. Stanley suggested the name "Acalanes", the name of Rancho Acalanes, the Mexican grant from which all land title within the City of Lafayette derives. Rancho Acalanes itself seems to have been named by its Hispanic settlers after the local Native American Bay Miwok tribe called Saklan (Saclan), referred to by Spanish missionaries as Saclanes. The first graduating class of 1941 selected the school colors of blue and white. For the school sports mascot, they chose the Don.

On April 12, 2011, Granada was named a 2011 California Distinguished School. On December 22, 2011, Granada became an International Baccalaureate World School.
