Ben Keneally is an Australian management consultant and politician. He was the Mayor of Botany Bay from 2012 to 2016. [1] His wife is the former NSW Premier and former Senator Kristina Keneally. [2] [3]
Keneally grew up in Gladesville,New South Wales. Educated at Holy Cross College,Ryde and the University of Sydney. Keneally worked in the Boston Consulting Group from 1994 to 2003, [4] then as a management consultant for Medical Imaging Australia Limited (MIA).[ citation needed ] He then worked as executive director at NSW Department of Housing,and then as Premier Morris Iemma's deputy chief of staff. [5] He then worked for an environmental consultancy before entering politics. [6]
Keneally was originally planning to challenge Deirdre Grusovin for Labor preselection in the state seat of Heffron in 2003. However,Labor's affirmative action rules required a female candidate,so he stood down in favour of his wife Kristina. [7]
Keneally was the Labor candidate for City of Botany Bay's mayoral election during the 2012 local government elections,and was elected as Mayor. [8] Later while he was Mayor,Keneally also began to work as a chief executive of a health care company. [9] In December 2015,he delegated his mayoral duties to deputy mayor Stan Kondilio due to his increased workload at the health care company. He officially continued as Mayor until the council was dissolved and amalgamated to form Bayside Council in September 2016. [10]
In January 2017,Keneally returned to the Boston Consulting Group to be a managing director and partner at its Sydney office. [6] [11] He still holds these positions as of March 2023 [update] . Keneally is the Asia-Pacific Healthcare lead for BCG.
Keneally met his future wife Kristina at World Youth Day 1991 in Poland. She moved to Australia in 1994 to be with him,but they returned to the US so Ben could take up a position with the Boston Consulting Group. They married there in 1996. [4] [12] They returned to Australia two years later,after their son was born.
The couple has two sons. A daughter died at birth. [13]
Keneally is the nephew of Australian author Thomas Keneally. [14]
The City of Botany Bay was a local government area in the inner southern and south-eastern region of Sydney,in the state of New South Wales,Australia. The area encompassed the suburbs to the north of Botany Bay,such as Botany. First proclaimed in 1888 as the "Borough of Botany",the council became the "Municipality of Botany" from 1906 to 1996,when it was proclaimed a city as the "City of Botany Bay".

Carmel Mary Tebbutt is an Australian former politician. She was the Labor Party Member for the former seat of Marrickville in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly until the 2015 election and was Deputy Premier of New South Wales from 2008 to 2011. She was also Minister for Health in the Keneally Government. She is the first woman to hold the position of Deputy Premier of New South Wales.
Ian Michael Macdonald is a former Australian politician and currently undergoing court proceedings and was a member of the New South Wales Legislative Council from 1988 to 2010 representing the Labor Party. Between 2003 and 2010,Macdonald held a range of ministerial responsibilities in the Carr,Iemma,Rees,and Keneally ministries. Macdonald,who joined the Labor Party in 1972,had his membership of the party terminated in 2013 for bringing the party into disrepute.

Francesco Ernest "Frank" Sartor is a former Australian politician who served as New South Wales Minister for Climate Change and the Environment and Minister Assisting the Minister for Health (Cancer) between 2009 and 2011. He was a Member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly representing Rockdale for the Labor Party between 2003 and 2011. Sartor has previously been Minister for Planning,Redfern Waterloo and the Arts,and Minister for Water and Utilities in the Iemma and Carr governments. Before being elected to the New South Wales Parliament,Sartor was the second longest-serving Lord Mayor of Sydney,after Clover Moore,having held the post for nearly 12 years from September 1991 to March 2003. Sartor retired from politics at the 2011 state election.
Kristina Marie Kerscher Keneally is an American-born Australian politician who was a Labor Senator for New South Wales from February 2018 until April 2022. She resigned from the Senate to contest the House of Representatives seat of Fowler,but was unsuccessful. From 2019 to 2022 she served as Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Senate,Shadow Minister for Home Affairs,and Shadow Minister for Immigration and Citizenship. She previously served as the first female Premier of New South Wales from 2009 to 2011.
Edward Moses Obeid is a retired Australian politician,and convicted criminal,who served as a member of the New South Wales Legislative Council between 1991 and 2011,representing the Labor Party. He was the Minister for Fisheries and the Minister for Mineral Resources from 1999–2003. Prior to the March 2015 expiry of his term in the Legislative Council,Obeid announced his decision to retire early on 10 May 2011,citing family reasons.

David Andrew Campbell,an Australian former politician,was a Member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly for Keira between 1999 and 2011. A former Lord Mayor of Wollongong,Campbell was appointed Minister for Police from 2 April 2007 to 5 September 2008,as well as Minister for Transport from 8 September 2008 until his resignation on 20 May 2010,with both positions as part of the NSW Government. He previously served as Mayor of the City of Botany Bay in New South Wales from 1981 to 2012,a record 31 years,before standing down and winning the 25 August Heffron by-election in the state parliament for the Labor Party.

A by-election occurred for the New South Wales Legislative Assembly seat of Heffron on Saturday 25 August 2012. This was triggered by the resignation of former Premier of New South Wales Kristina Keneally (Labor) which she announced on 23 June 2012. Labor easily retained the seat with an increased margin. Ron Hoenig received a 60 percent primary and 70 percent two-candidate preferred vote.
Bayside Council is a southern local government area in New South Wales,Australia. It is located in Sydney,around part of Botany Bay,7 kilometres (4.3 mi) to 12 kilometres (7.5 mi) south of the CBD. It includes suburbs of Southern Sydney and the St George area separated by the Cooks River as well as a small portion in the Eastern suburbs,south-east of the CBD. It comprises an area of 50 square kilometres (19 sq mi) and as at the 2016 census had a population of 156,058.
