Benson was an unincorporated community in Black Hawk County, in the U.S. state of Iowa.
Benson was located at 42°32′32″N92°32′31″W / 42.54222°N 92.54194°W , [1] in Cedar Falls Township.
Benson was founded on the Illinois Central Railroad in Cedar Falls Township. In the early 20th century, Benson was home to a blacksmith shop, a general store, and a dairy. [2] Around this time, Benson was described as a "very small village" in The History of Black Hawk County, Iowa. The Benson school (#2 in the township) had two teachers. [3]
Benson's population was 25 in 1900. [4]
The community also had a lumber yard and a coal dealer. In 1906, the rail line at Benson was abandoned in favor of another Illinois Central Rail route, causing the closure of the depot in Benson. Despite a $15,000 lawsuit filed by three Benson businesses (citizens Lumber Company, S.C. Canfield Coal company, and Lee Canfield general merchandise), representatives from the Illinois Central Railroad maintained that business was not sufficient to keep the depot in operation. [5]
The population of Benson was 35 in 1920, [6] and in 1940 was 25. [7]

The Burlington, Cedar Rapids and Northern Railway (BCR&N) was a railroad that operated in the United States from 1876 to 1903. It was formed to take over the operations of the bankrupt Burlington, Cedar Rapids and Minnesota Railway, which was, in turn, the result of merging several predecessor lines, the construction of which began in 1869. The corporate headquarters were in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and it had operations in Iowa and in Minnesota. It was succeeded by the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railway.

Iowa Falls Union Depot is a historic building located in Iowa Falls, Iowa, United States. The Dubuque & Sioux City Railroad, an affiliate of the Illinois Central Railroad (IC), laid the first rail track to Iowa Falls in 1866. The following year the Iowa Falls & Sioux City Railroad, another IC affiliate, continued construction of the line to the west, and it reached Sioux City by 1870. They built a plain, two-story frame depot to serve Iowa Falls. The Burlington, Cedar Rapids and Northern Railway (BCR&N) by way of its affiliate the Cedar Rapids, Iowa Falls & North Western, entered Iowa Falls in 1880. They built their own depot. It was basically another east–west route, but local business leaders desired a north–south route to serve the community.
