Bernardo Alves Martinho Amaral Blanco (19 November 1995), [1] is a Portuguese politician. He is currently a Member of Parliament and vice-president of the executive committee of the Liberal Initiative.
Blanco was born in Torres Vedras in 1995. He holds a degree in management from Catholic University of Portugal,where he also took a Master's in political science. He has worked in the private sector,first at OLX as product manager,then as a member of the strategy team at Liberty Seguros [2] and later at Deloitte. [3] He joined the Liberal Initiative (IL) and was head of the list for the District of Leiria in the 2019 legislative election. In the following Portuguese legislative election,the 2022 legislative election,he rejoined the lists,this time for Lisbon,and was elected MP to the Portuguese Parliament. [4] He was vice-president of the Mises Portugal Institute and local coordinator of Students for Liberty. He is also author of the blog "O Insurgente", [5] with his fellow IL MPs Carlos Guimarães Pinto and Rui Rocha. [6] [7]
Since the beginning of liberalism in Portugal in the 19th century,several parties have,by gaining representation in parliament,continued the liberal ideology in contemporary Portuguese politics. But after the initial fervor of the Liberal Revolution of 1820 and the outcome of the Liberal Wars (1828–1834) during the 19th century,liberalism was relegated to a secondary role in Portuguese politics and government and even outlawed for periods of time. The first fully-fledged liberal party founded as such to have a seat in the Portuguese Parliament since the end of the First Portuguese Republic (1910–1926),was the Liberal Initiative,in 2019.
Same-sex marriage has been legal in Portugal since 5 June 2010. The XVIII Constitutional Government of Portugal under Prime Minister JoséSócrates introduced a bill for legalization in December 2009. It was passed by the Assembly of the Republic in February 2010,and was declared legally valid by the Portuguese Constitutional Court in April 2010. On 17 May 2010,President Aníbal Cavaco Silva ratified the law,making Portugal the sixth country in Europe and the eighth in the world to allow same-sex marriage nationwide. The law was published in the Diário da República on 31 May and became effective on 5 June 2010.
People-Animals-Nature is an environmentalist,animal rights,and animal welfare-focused political party in Portugal,which was founded in 2009. In the 2011 Madeiran regional election,it had 2.13% of the votes,with a total of 3,135 votes,thus having elected one MP also in this regional parliament,Rui Manuel dos Santos Almeida. In 2015,they won one seat in the Assembly of the Republic.

Outside of politics,she worked as Senior Customer Experience Manager in the insurance sector. Prior to that,she held other management and marketing positions,also in the insurance sector. She was born in Lisbon and grew up between Almada and Seixal,where she currently lives. She stood as an independent candidate for the Liberal Initiative in the 2019 legislative elections and,in the meantime,joined the party and founded the Setúbal and Seixal branches of the party. She became a national councillor for IL and a member of the executive committee of the political party.
