Bessie Cursons (born 8 June 1995)[ citation needed ] is an English actress from Portsmouth, Hampshire. She reached the final of the first series of the ITV talent show Britain's Got Talent in 2007. Cursons starred in the children's comedy-drama, My Phone Genie .

Cursons was born on 8 June 1995 in Portsmouth, Hampshire. She began singing and dancing at the age of 4 at local dance and music clubs. Her main ambition was to go on stage and become famous.
Cursons and her family were on holiday in Goa in India when the Britain's Got Talent auditions were being held, in May 2007, but, along with her father, she made the trip back to the UK to take part in them. In her audition, which was the last of the show and was televised on 13 June 2007, she performed "Wouldn't It Be Loverly" from the musical My Fair Lady and received a standing ovation from the audience, with Simon Cowell saying her audition was the most professional in the whole competition. She received three "yes" votes from the judges and was placed in the next round. She was chosen as one of the 24 semi-finalists for the semi-finals in June.
In the semi-final, on 15 June 2007, she performed "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" from the musical Mary Poppins and received a standing ovation and positive comments from the judges saying that she managed to improve on her audition. Cursons was automatically placed in the final after receiving the highest number of votes. [1]
In the final, on 17 June 2007, she performed "Get Me to the Church on Time" from My Fair Lady . Judges Piers Morgan and Amanda Holden said Cursons 'deserves to be in the West End'. Simon Cowell, while he also liked it, said he preferred her semi-final performance. Cursons didn't win the final with opera singer Paul Potts winning it.
Cursons filmed alongside Alan Carr, Martin Freeman, Marc Wootton and Jake Pratt in the film Nativity! , in which two schools compete to put on the best nativity show. Cursons played posh pupil Christy in the film, and leads a rendition of Ding Dong Merrily on High in which she is flanked by two choirs on stage. [2] The film was released on 27 November 2009. [3] The film made almost £800,000 in its first week, and went in at number six in the UK film chart. [2] Cursons had three auditions for the film and was overjoyed to get the part. She said 'I was so excited. I really didn't know what to expect'. We filmed for about two or three months at this really old, posh-looking school in Coventry – it was a lot of fun.' [2]
Cursons performed at the Guide Awards in November 2007 and was among the star performers. Cursons performed her audition routine from Britain's Got Talent, Wouldn't It Be Loverly from My Fair Lady , at the showbiz ceremony at the Kings Theatre in Southsea. [4] Cursons also does the voice of Victoria the dog in the popular children's cartoon series Gaspard and Lisa. [2]
Portsmouth Today on 25 February 2009 reported that Cursons had landed a role in the West End production of Oliver!, alongside Rowan Atkinson at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane. [3] Cursons appeared in the show from the beginning of March until August.[ citation needed ]
Cursons starred as Jasmine Hart in the CITV comedy-drama series, My Phone Genie , which was filmed in 2011 and aired in 2012.
Cursons is currently living in Cosham, Hampshire with her mother and father, Sarah and Andy, and her younger brother Billy, who aspires to be like his older sister. [5] Cursons, whose screen idol is Audrey Hepburn, hopes one day to carve out a career for herself in the films. She said: 'I'd like to get in another film, because it was such a great experience. [3]
She attended Sylvia Young Theatre School. [3] After Cursons' appearance on Britain's Got Talent, her mother swapped her job as a secretarial manager at St Mary's Hospital in Portsmouth for a similar role at St Thomas's Hospital in London so her daughter would not be alone on the commute to the capital to attend theatre school. She is currently a teacher at Youngstar Television & Film Acting School in Hampshire. Bessie now has her own theatre and dance academy sharing her knowledge to ensure local children have experience in dance, theatre and acting. In July 2021, she married her partner, Ashley Carter; and in December 2022, welcomed their daughter. [7]

America's Got Talent is a televised American talent show competition, and is part of the global Got Talent franchise created by Simon Cowell. The program is produced by Fremantle USA and Syco Entertainment, and broadcasts on the NBC television network. It premiered on June 21, 2006, after plans for a British edition in 2005 were suspended, following a dispute within the British broadcaster ITV. Production would later resume in 2007, following the success of the first season. Each season is mainly run during the network's summer schedule, and has featured various hosts over the course of the program's history. The current host is Terry Crews.
Britain's Got Talent is a televised British talent show competition, and part of the global Got Talent franchise created by Simon Cowell. Presented by Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly, it is produced by both Thames and Syco Entertainment, distributed by Fremantle, and broadcast on ITV every year in late Spring to early Summer. The show was originally intended for production in 2005, but filming was suspended in the wake of a dispute between ITV and the programme's originally planned host. Following the success of America's Got Talent that year, production resumed and the programme eventually premiered on 9 June 2007.

The fifth series of British talent competition programme Britain's Got Talent was broadcast on ITV, from 16 April to 4 June 2011; due to live coverage of the 2011 UEFA Champions League Final on 28 May, the final audition episode of the series was pushed back a day to avoid clashing with it. As Piers Morgan had departed from the programme the previous year, and the schedule of Simon Cowell made him unable to attend auditions, the producers arranged for Amanda Holden to be joined by David Hasselhoff and Michael McIntyre on the judging panel. Jonathan Antoine and Charlotte Jaconelli, known collectively as Jonathan and Charlotte, were an English classical crossover duo from Essex. They finished as runners-up in the sixth series of Britain's Got Talent in 2012, being beaten by dancing dog act Ashleigh and Pudsey. At the time, they were aged 17 and 16 respectively. By the time of her second performance in 2018 on the first live TV broadcast of AGT that season, the video of her audition had been viewed "over 200 million" times, according to show host Tyra Banks as she introduced Hadwin.

Although production was still impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, live audiences were involved during audition sessions and live round stages of the competition. After Simon Cowell returned to his role on the program after an accident the previous year, the Judges Cuts round was replaced by him with a new deliberation format arrangement similar to that used in Britain's Got Talent.
