Beth Pascall (born 15 September 1987) is a British ultrarunner and paediatrician. [1] Among her victories are the Spine Race in 2015, the Ultra Trail Cape Town in 2019 and the Western States Endurance Run in 2021.
Beth Pascall grew up on her parents' family farm. She didn't discover sport until she studied medicine at the University of Nottingham, where she took up rowing. [2] [3] While volunteering at a children's hospital in Zambia, she decided to specialise in paediatrics. [4] She turned to trail running, as it was easier to balance with working life. [5]
She launched herself directly into ultramarathon distances. In 2015, she was winner of the Spine Race. [5]
In 2016, she took part in the Trail World Championships in Gerês where she finished eighth. Together with Jo Meek and Jo Zakrzewski, she won the bronze medal for Great Britain in the team classification. [6]
In the 2018 Pascall and Damian Hall ran the Cape Wrath Trail, self-supported and during winter. The achieved a fastest known time, [7] [8] and a documentary Wrath was made following their attempt. [9] [10]
In 2019, she ran the Ultra Trail Cape Town. In the absence of rivals Courtney Dauwalter and Lucy Bartholomew, both of whom withdrew at the last moment, she dominated the race, completing the 100 kilometres (62 mi) course in 10:55:48 and setting a new women's course record. [11]
In 2020, she took on the Bob Graham Round, taking advantage of the absence of competitions during the COVID-19 pandemic. Having trained specifically for the challenge, she aimed for a time of 15:23, one minute ahead of the record of Jasmin Paris. However, she completed the course in 14:34:26, improving the women's record by fifty minutes and setting the fourth-best overall time in the Bob Graham Round behind Kílian Jornet, Billy Bland and Rob Jebb. In 2021, won the Canyon 100k in 10:01:55, more than half an hour ahead of her closest pursuer, Abby Hall. [13] She then ran the Western States Endurance Run where she quickly took control of the race. Leading at a steady pace, she didn't let up, trying to maintain a lead over her pursuers Ruth Croft and Ragna Debats. She finally won in 17:10:42, finishing seventh overall and setting the second-best women's time in the event behind Ellie Greenwood's record of 16:47:19 set in 2012. [14] [15] [16]
An ultramarathon is a footrace longer than the traditional marathon distance of 42.195 kilometres. The sport of running ultramarathons is called ultra running or ultra distance running.
The Bob Graham Round is a fell running challenge in the English Lake District. It is named after Bob Graham (1889–1966), a Keswick guest-house owner, who in June 1932 broke the Lakeland Fell record by traversing 42 fells within a 24-hour period. Traversing the 42 fells, starting and finishing at Keswick Moot Hall, involves 66 miles with 26,900 feet of ascent.
Ann Trason is an American ultramarathon runner from Auburn, California. She set 20 world records during her career. Her world record of 5:40:18 at the 50 mile distance, set in 1991, was unbeaten until 2015. As of her induction into the Ultrarunning Hall of Fame in 2020, she was considered by many to be the most successful female ultrarunner of all time.
Scott Gordon Jurek is an American ultramarathoner, author, and public speaker. Throughout his running career, Jurek was one of the most dominant ultramarathon runners in the world, winning the Hardrock Hundred (2007), the Badwater Ultramarathon, the Spartathlon, and the Western States 100 Mile Endurance Run (1999–2005). In 2010, at the 24-Hour World Championships in Brive-la-Gaillarde, France, Jurek won a silver medal behind Shingo Inoue and set a new US record for distance run in 24 hours with 165.7 miles. In 2015, Jurek set the Fastest Known Time running record for the 2,189-mile Appalachian Trail.

Nikki Kimball is an American distance runner specializing in the Ultramarathon. She ran her first 100-mile race at the Western States 100 Mile Endurance Run in 2004, and was the female winner. She was the winning female at Western States again in 2006 and 2007, becoming only the third woman to win Western States three times. In 2014, she won the Marathon Des Sables multi-stage endurance race on her first attempt. Prior to running, her main sport was cross-country skiing. She was crewed at the 2007 Western States by U.S. Senator Max Baucus of Montana, where Kimball lives. She lives in Bozeman, Montana.
Dave (David) Mackey, born November 22, 1969, is an American ultra runner and adventure racer who lives in Boulder, Colorado. Mackey has set course records at many significant national ultra-distance trail running races, and spent several years adventure racing nationally and internationally. He is a physician assistant in emergency medicine.
Connie Gardner is an American ultramarathoner and member of the USATF. She has competed in ultramarathons all over the world, and has won 11 USATF national championships. Her ultramarathon victories include the Burning River 100 Mile Trail Race, the Mohican 100 Mile Trail Race, the NorthCoast 24-Hour Endurance Run, the Tussey Mountainback 50 Miler (2011), and the JFK 50 Miler.
Ellie Greenwood is a British and Canadian ultramarathon runner. She is a four-time 100km World Champion, winning both individual and team titles in 2010 and 2014. She won the 90 km Comrades Marathon in South Africa in 2014, becoming the first British woman to win the race. Greenwood is also a former champion and course record holder for the Canadian Death Race, Western States 100, and the JFK 50 Mile Run.
