Betty Nambooze Bakireke, commonly known as Betty Nambooze, is a Ugandan journalist and politician. She serves as the Member of Parliament, representing Mukono Municipality, in Mukono District [1]

Background and education

She was born in Mukono District, on 13 July 1969. She attended Bishop's Senior Secondary School Mukono, graduating in 1986. [2] She later attended the Law Development Centre, graduating with a Diploma in Law, in 1998. In 2010, she was awarded the Diploma in Development Studies by Uganda Martyrs University. [1]

Career

Nambooze was first elected to parliament in May 2010, when in a by-election, running on the Democratic Party ticket, she defeated the then incumbent MP, Peter Bakaluba Mukasa of the ruling National Resistance Movement. [3] According to her parliamentary profile, Nambooze worked as a news reporter (stringer), between 1993 and 2000. From 2000 until 2004, she worked as a law enforcement officer. From 2004 until 2005, she served as a personnel officer. She worked as a radio presenter between 2000 and 2009 at CBS FM. From 2005 until 2010, she served as the Spokesperson for the Democratic Party in Uganda. [1] [4]

On 24 February 2016, she was briefly arrested along with MP-elect Moses Kasibante for revealing documents describing election fraud taking place during the country's recent election.

Nambooze has been arrested on numerous occasions on various politically-motivated, often trumped-up charges, but she has not as of yet been convicted in any court of law. [5] [6] [7] [8] her life has also been threatened and even poisoned because of her political activities. [9] [10]

On 13 August 2020, Nambooze was declared a member of "National Unity Platform" political party joining forces with his fellow member of parliament "Kyagulanyi Sentamu Robert" a.k.a. "Bobi Wine" the party president . Together with her other party members, Nambooze are set on "Mission 2021" a party mission to unseat the ruling party in the upcoming the 2021 elections [11] [12]

In the 2021 parliamentary elections, Namboze won another term of office (2021-2026) to represent mukono municipality on the NUP ticket after defeating her closest competitors Mr George Fred Kagimu of Democratic Party (DP) and Abbas Ssozi of National resistance Movement (NRM). [13] [14] On 19th October police probed attack on honorable Betty Nambooze's home where they recovered two brad new pangas in a sack in a small garden of tomatoes [15] [16]

Nambooze sits on the (a) Committee on Public Service and Local Government and the (b) Committee on Local Government Accounts. [1] [17]


Personal

In November 2002, Betty Nambooze married Henry Bakireke, whom she had met in high school in the 1980s. Together, they are the parents of over 26 children, both natural and adopted. [2] [18]

In 2021 he lost his Membership of Parliament for Mukono County North after an attempt to use military force to overturn the Electoral Commission decision.

Ida Erios Nantaba is a Ugandan politician. She was the State Minister in the Uganda Ministry of Information and Communications Technology. She was appointed to that position on 6 June 2016. Prior to that, from 15 August 2012 until 6 June 2016, she was Minister of State for Lands in the Cabinet of Uganda. Nantaba is also the elected Member of Parliament for Women in Kayunga District Constituency.

Beti Olive Namisango Kamya-Turomwe, also known as Betty Kamya and Beti Kamya, is a businesswoman and politician in Uganda, the third-largest economy in the East African Community. She is the Inspector General of Government in Uganda, since 16 July 2021.

The National Unity Platform, formerly the National Unity, Reconciliation and Development Party (NURP), is a political party in Uganda led by Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu. The NURP was led by Moses Nkonge Kibalama from December 2004 until July 2020. On 14 July 2020, Kyagulanyi assumed leadership of the party and was declared the party flag-bearer for the January 2021 Ugandan presidential elections.

Justine Khainza also referred to as Khainza Justine is a Ugandan politician and social worker. She is the district woman representative of Bududa District in the 9th and 10th Parliament of Uganda. She is a member of the National Resistance Movement political party. In the 2021 presidential and parliamentary elections, she lost the vote to Agnes Nandutu who is the current district woman representative of Bududa District in the 11th Parliament of Uganda.

Florence Namayanja is a female Ugandan politician who was district woman representative of Bukoto County East, Masaka District. She was affiliated to the Democratic Party political party and now affiliated to National Unity Platform. In the 11th Parliament, she stood as the Candidate for LC5 Chairperson for Masaka City under the National Unity Platform although she lost the elections. She was the winner of Masaka city mayoral seat after defeating seven candidates including business tycoon, Emmanuel Lwasa with 28,824 votes.

Derrick Nyeko Keko is a Ugandan politician, Farmer, and Member of Parliament representing Makindye East in Uganda's 11th Parliament (2021-2026) and Shadow Minister for Presidency and Security.He is married to Ruth kirabo Nyeko He is a member of the opposition party, National Unity Platform (NUP) and a supporter of the People Power, Our Power movement. He was earlier associated with the ruling party National Resistance Movement (NRM).

Yusuf Mutembuli is a Ugandan advocate of the High Court, academic, politician and member of parliament representing Butaleja District in Bunyole East constituency on the ticket of National Resistance Movement.

Brenda Nabukenya is a Ugandan politician and legislator. She represents the people of Luwero district as district woman representative for Luwero district in the parliament of Uganda. She subscribes to the National Unity Platform party on whose ticket she was voted into parliament in the 2021 Uganda general elections. National Unity platform is headed by Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu alias Bobi wine.

David Lewis Rubongoya is a Ugandan lawyer, politician and University lecturer who played a key role in the founding of the National Unity Platform (NUP) political party, alongside its president Bobi Wine.
