Bhudeo Choudhary (alternatively Bhudev Choudhary; [1] born 1 February 1960 [2] ) is an Indian politician currently serving as a Member of the Legislative Assembly from the Dhoraiya seat in Bihar representing the Rashtriya Janata Dal and former member of parliament. He has been the state president of the Rashtriya Lok Samata Party in Bihar till September 2020. [3] Prior to the Bihar Assembly Elections 2020,he joined Rashtriya Janata Dal. [4] He has also been the representative of the Dhauraiya constituency in the Bihar Legislative Assembly from 2000 to 2009. Choudhary was elected to the Indian parliament in 2009 for one term as the representative of the Jamui constituency. He is a former member of the Janata Dal (United).
Bhudeo Choudhary had contested the Dhauraiya constituency of the Bihar Legislative Assembly in 1990 as an independent candidate and in 1995 as the candidate of the Samata Party (now led by Uday Mandal its President). [5] [1] [6] Choudhary was elected as a representative in the legislative assembly for the first time in 2000. He was then a member of the Samata Party and became the representative of the Dhauraiya constituency. [7] After the merger of the Samata Party into the Janata Dal (United), [8] he was re-elected to the seat in the February and October elections of 2005 as the candidate of the Janata Dal (United). [9]
Choudhary was elected to the Indian parliament from the Jamui constituency in the 2009 Indian general election as a member of the Janata Dal (United) and a nominee of the National Democratic Alliance. [10] [11] Following his election,he resigned from his seat in the Bihar Legislative Assembly. [12] He is noted to have criticised the 2011 Union Budget of India with a rhyme stating "If you drive a car,I will tax the street. If you try to sit,I will tax the seat. If you get too cold,I will tax the heat. If you take a walk,I will tax your feet." [13] Choudhary remained as a sitting member of parliament of the Janata Dal (United) till 2014, [14] but the party denied him candidacy to stand for re-election in the 2014 Indian general election. He contested the Dhauraiya constituency for the sixth time as a candidate of Rashtriya Lok Samata Party in the 2015 Bihar Legislative Assembly election but failed to secure the seat. [17] In 2016,he was nominated as the state president of the Bihar unit of the Rashtriya Lok Samata Party's by the party's national president,Upendra Kushwaha. [18] The nomination was met with dissent in the party from the rebelling faction of Arun Kumar. [19] Choudhary contested the Jamui constituency seat in the 2019 Indian general election but was defeated by Chirag Paswan. [20]
Bhudeo Choudhary has been involved in a land grabbing case in Kazichak,Banka district. A first information report (FIR) had been lodged against Choudhary which stated that he had forced the claimant of a property to vacate the premises by threatening him with an unlicensed revolver in the presence of a mob which included police personnel and administrative officers and then demolished the property after attaining possession. The report alleged that documents for the sale of the property were forged with the help of undue influence in favor of his wife,Indrani Choudhary when he was the Member of the Legislative Assembly from the constituency. The report also claimed that a death certificate of the wife of the original owner had been forged to deny her rights to the property after her husband had died. The FIR had named Bhudeo Choudhary,his wife,a deputy collector and over 50 other people,some of whom were unidentified. [21]
Janata Dal (United) ("People's Party (United)"),abbreviated as JD(U),is an Indian political party with political presence mainly in eastern and north-eastern India. JD(U) is recognised as a state party in the states of Bihar and Manipur and is a part of government in both the states. JD(U) heads the government in Bihar and is part of the NDA government in Manipur. JD(U) won 12 seats in the 2024 Indian general election,making it the seventh largest party in the Lok Sabha. JD(U) states that they believe in promoting social justice and lifting up marginalized peoples.
Ram Vilas Paswan was an Indian politician from Bihar and the Cabinet Minister of Consumer Affairs,Food and Public Distribution in the first and second Modi ministries. Paswan was also the president of the Lok Janshakti Party,nine-times Lok Sabha member and two-time Rajya Sabha MP. He started his political career as member of Samyukta Socialist Party and was elected to the Bihar Legislative Assembly in 1969. Later,Paswan joined Lok Dal upon its formation in 1974,and became its general secretary. He opposed the emergency,and was arrested during this period. He first entered the Lok Sabha in 1977,as a Janata Party member from Hajipur constituency,and was elected again in 1980,1989,1991,1996,1998,1999,2004 and 2014.

On 20 February 2023,Kushwaha resigned from all positions in Janata Dal (United) and formed his own party called Rashtriya Lok Morcha due to his political problems with JD(U) and Nitish Kumar.

The Luv-Kush equation is a political term used in the context of the politics of Bihar,to denote the alliance of the agricultural Kurmi and the Koeri caste,which was assumed to be approximately 15% of the state's population The alliance of these two caste groups has remained the support base of Nitish Kumar,as against the MY equation of Lalu Prasad Yadav,which constitutes Muslims and the Yadavs. Caste consciousness and the quest for political representation largely drive the politics of Bihar. The political alliance of the Koeri and the Kurmi castes,termed the "Luv-Kush equation" was formed when a massive Kurmi Chetna Rally was organised by members of the Kurmi community in 1994 against the alleged casteist politics of Lalu Yadav,who was blamed by contemporary community leaders for promoting Yadavs in politics and administration.

The party's ideology is based on the ideals of Karpoori Thakur. The foundation of the party was preceded by a two day conference organised by Upendra Kushwaha in Patna,in which he invoked the participation of all the members of Mahatama Phule Samata Parishad,a socio-political organisation and his trusted aides in Janata Dal (United). In the backdrop of this conference the foundation of the party was announced.

Shekhar was elected to Bihar Legislative Assembly first in the year 2016,in a bypoll conducted for the Harlakhi Assembly constituency in Madhubani district of Bihar. In this bypoll,which followed the death of incumbent legislator from Harlakhi constituency,Basant Kushwaha,he defeated Mohammad Shabbir of Indian National Congress. This was followed by his second victory in 2020 Bihar Legislative Assembly elections,in which he retained this seat. Shekhar is the son of Rashtriya Lok Samata Party politician Basant Kushwaha.
