Bhuwan Chandra Kapri is an Indian politician and a member of Indian National Congress,who represents Khatima constituency. [1] On 10 April 2022,Bhuwan Chandra Kapri was elected as the Deputy Leader of Congress Legislative Party (CLP) in the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly. [2]
Kapri won the 2022 Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly election from Khatima constituency,with a margin of 6579 votes [3] against the incumbent Chief Minister of Uttarakhand,Pushkar Singh Dhami. [3] He is also a former Working President of Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee. [4]
Bhuwan Kapri lost the 2017 Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly Election and finished as runner up. [5]
Kapri has been associated with the Indian National Congress and National Students' Union of India for a long time. [6] He started his political career from Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Govt PG College,Khatima where he became President of the Students’Union. [6] Previously he also served as the Chairman of Khatima Mandi Council. [6]
Kapri was born in a Kumaoni Brahmin family [7] in Harari village of Pithoragarh district in the state of Uttar Pradesh (now Uttarakhand) on 11 November 1981 to Liladhar Kapri and Godawari Kapri.
He studied there until 3rd standard after that they moved to Khatima. He received a Bachelor of Science,Master of Arts and later Bachelor of Laws from Kumaun University in 2014. Where he was also elected as President of the Student’s Union of HNBPG Khatima.
Before stepping into active politics,Kapri,known for his humble nature and relentless hard work,dedicated himself to shaping young minds as a teacher. With a vision to guide students towards a brighter future,he established the Gurukul Coaching center where he taught chemistry. Through his efforts,he played a significant role in molding the futures of numerous students,leaving a lasting impact on their academic and personal growth.
In 2011,the Indian Youth Congress,Uttarakhand state unit organised a protest against corruption by then BJP-State Government. While the protest was underway,police resorted to a lathi charge,injuring several participants. Kapri,then Lok Sabha(Nainital–U.S.Nagar) Youth Congress President,sustained serious injuries in the incident.
Kapri,donated his wedding savings to restore the homes of 30 families and build a house for four abandoned children. [8] The money,originally saved for his wedding,was redirected to this noble cause. Kapri also helped restore homes damaged by fire in nearby villages,earning widespread admiration from the local community. [8]

Khatima is a city and a municipal board in Udham Singh Nagar district in the Indian state of Uttarakhand.
Bhagat Singh Koshyari is an Indian politician who served as the 22nd governor of Maharashtra from 2019 to 2023. An RSS veteran,Koshyari served as National Vice-President of BJP and party's 3rd State president for Uttarakhand. He also served as 2nd Chief Minister of Uttarakhand from 2001 to 2002 and thereafter,was the leader of the opposition in the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly from 2002 to 2003.
