Big Spring High School is a public high school located in Big Spring, Texas and classified as a 4A Division I school by the University Interscholastic League (UIL). It is part of the Big Spring Independent School District located in north central Howard County. The high school building was dedicated on March 23, 1952. The dedication address was given by J.W. Edgar, State Commissioner of Education. This was the first new high school built in 35 years, and the third in the districts history. The school initially opened in 2006 in what is now Fowler Middle School and the following year opened in its own building on Rolater Road. In 2015, the school was rated "Met Standard" by the Texas Education Agency. It has a rivalry with Centennial High School, which the students refer to as the "Rolater Rumble”

Kermit High School is the only public high school in Kermit, Texas, and is under the administration of Kermit Independent School District located in Winkler County. It is located at the corner of G.E. "Tommy" Thompson Boulevard and North Avenue D in Kermit, Texas. As of the Spring of 2014, the school had an enrollment of 352 students attending grades nine through twelve. Kermit High School began the 2011–12 school year in its old facilities but moved to the new school facility on September 26, 2011, after the Kermit ISD Board of Trustees approved the new building on September 20, 2011. The school's mascot is the Yellow Jacket.

A small portion of southwestern Jones County lies within the district also. The district and the school are both named after the Baylor Merkel, the first settler in the area. In 2016, the school was rated "Met Standard" by the Texas Education Agency.
