The Baltimore Orioles are an American professional baseball team based in Baltimore. The Orioles compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member of the American League (AL) East Division. As one of the American League's eight charter teams in 1901,the franchise spent its first year as a major league club in Milwaukee as the Milwaukee Brewers before moving to St. Louis to become the St. Louis Browns in 1902. After 52 years in St. Louis,the franchise was purchased in 1953 by a syndicate of Baltimore business and civic interests,led by attorney and civic activist Clarence Miles and Mayor Thomas D'Alesandro Jr. The team's current owner is David Rubenstein. The Orioles' home ballpark is Oriole Park at Camden Yards,which opened in 1992 in downtown Baltimore. The oriole is the official state bird of Maryland;the name has been used by several baseball clubs in the city,including another AL charter member franchise which folded after the 1902 season and was replaced the next year by the New York Highlanders,later the Yankees. Nicknames for the team include the "O's" and the "Birds".
Don Edward Baylor,nicknamed "Groove," was an American professional baseball player,coach and manager. During his 19 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB),Baylor was a power hitter known for standing very close to home plate and was a first baseman,left fielder,and designated hitter. He played for six different American League (AL) teams,primarily the Baltimore Orioles and California Angels,but he also played for the Oakland Athletics,New York Yankees,Minnesota Twins,and Boston Red Sox. In 1979,Baylor was an All-Star and won the AL Most Valuable Player Award. He won three Silver Slugger Awards,the Roberto Clemente Award,and was a member of the 1987 World Series champion Minnesota Twins.
George Irvin Bamberger was an American professional baseball player,pitching coach and manager. In Major League Baseball,the right-handed pitcher appeared in ten games,nine in relief,for the 1951–52 New York Giants and the 1959 Baltimore Orioles. He later spent ten seasons (1968–77) as the Orioles' pitching coach and managed the Milwaukee Brewers and New York Mets (1982–83). During his playing career,he threw and batted right-handed,stood 6 feet (1.8 m) tall and weighed 175 pounds (79 kg).
John Rikard Dempsey is an American former professional baseball player. He played for 24 seasons as a catcher in Major League Baseball from 1969 to 1992,most prominently for the Baltimore Orioles where he played for 10 years and was a member of the 1983 World Series winning team. Dempsey was known for being one of the best defensive catchers of his era. In 1997,he was inducted into the Baltimore Orioles Hall of Fame.

He played from 1991 to 2001 for three National League teams –the San Diego Padres,Cincinnati Reds,and Florida Marlins –and four American League teams –the Milwaukee Brewers,Kansas City Royals,New York Yankees,and Baltimore Orioles.

He played in Major League Baseball as a left-handed pitcher from 1975 to 1993,most notably as a member of the Milwaukee Brewers with whom he won the 1982 American League pennant. Following his playing career,he has served as a coach for several MLB teams.
