Bimbo, or formerly Trio Bimbo, is an Indonesian pop and religious vocal group.
In 1966, the group performed for the first time on . The group was named Trio Bimbo by Hamid Gruno of TVRI. The trio performed Consuelo Velazquez's "Besame Mucho" and Elpido Ramirez's "Malaguenna Salerosa". [1] [2]
In 1969, Trio Bimbo submitted to Remaco several songs written by Iwan Abdurahman, including "Melati dari Jayagiri" ("Jasmine from Jayagiri") and "Flamboyan" ("Flamboyant"). One year later, Trio Bimbo released its debut album recorded by Polydor. The album consists of Iwan Abdurahman and Tonny Koeswoyo tunes, namely "Pinang Muda" ("Young Pinang"), "Melati dari Jayagiri", "Berpisah" ("Separating"), "Flamboyan", "Manis dan Sayang" ("Sweet and Lovely"), and "Pengembara" ("Wanderer"). The album also includes international hits such as "Light My Fire", "Once There Was A Love", "Cecilia", "El Condor Pasa" and "I Have Dreamed" and "Wichita Lineman". Trio Bimbo was helped by Maryono, a saxophonist from Surabaya. In Indonesia, the album was distributed by Remaco. [1] [3]
In the early 1970s, Remaco decided to release Trio Bimbo's album. The songs of the album including Iwan Abdurahman's "Balada Seorang Kelana" ("A Wanderer's Ballad") and "Angin November" ("November's Wind"), "Sunyi" ("Desolate") by A. Riyanto, and "Bunga Sedap Malam" ("The Tuberose Flower") by Koeswandi. Trio Bimbo changed its name to Bimbo in 1973, following Lin's joining the group. In this period, Bimbo added Indra Rivai on keyboards, Iwan Abdurrachman on bass guitar and Rudy Suparma on drums. [1]
Bimbo employed unique vocal harmonies. The members said that Queen influenced their vocal harmonies. One of Bimbo's songs "Di Atas Jembatan Semanggi" ("On the Semanggi Bridge") has a similar verse to "Bohemian Rhapsody". [1] [4] Rolling Stone Indonesia described Bimbo as a heavy melodic structure with wider chords. Bimbo often adopts minor keys. [1] Asrat Ginting wrote that Bimbo uses various kind of music, from qasidah to pop, while Indonesian litterateur Ramadhan K.H. described Bimbo's music as "Mozart's music and infiltrates to the heart like Ciganjuran". [lower-alpha 1] [5] This unique style of Bimbo has reminiscent of style well-taken by Los Panchos and The Brothers Four. [6]
Ginting writes that Bimbo preferred poetic lyrics. He also described Bimbo's works as "full of depth and contemplative". [lower-alpha 2] Bimbo performed several poems including Wing Kardjo's "Kutulis Lagi" ("I Wrote Again") and "Salju" ("Snow"), Taufiq Ismail's "Oda pada Van Gogh" ("Ode to Van Gogh") and "Dengan Puisi" ("By Poetry"), and Ramadhan K.H.'s "Kehadiran" ("The Presence"). In the mid-1970s, however, Bimbo used social criticism, humor and satirical lyrics. In "Tante Sun" ("Aunty Sun") the lyrics satirize state official wives who abuse the authority. [7]
In the 1980s, Bimbo's lyrics were more directed to international events. "Surat Untuk Reagan dan Brezhnev" ("Letters to Reagan and Brezhnev") criticizes the Cold War, "Antara Kabul dan Beirut" ("Between Kabul and Beirut") tells about conflict in the Middle East, "Balada Tuan Hue Hue" ("Mr. Hue Hue's Ballad") is about Vietnamese refugees and "Elegi Buat PBB" ("Elegy for the U.N."), is addressed to the United Nations. Besides that, Bimbo is also popular for producing song with Islamic religious nuances, such as "Tuhan" ("God"), "Puasa" ("The Fasts"), "Sajadah Panjang" ("A Long Laid Prayer Rug"), "Bermata Tapi Tak Melihat" ("With Eyes But Don't Want To See"), "Rindu Kami Padamu" ("Longing on You") and "Ada Anak Bertanya Pada Bapaknya" ("A Father and His Child's Questions"). These songs became associated with the month of Ramadan because they are played every year during the season by mainstream media such as television and radio. [9]
In 2007, Bimbo released an album as a marker to its 40th anniversary. Bimbo collaborated to Taufiq Ismail in this album. One of the songs is "Jual Beli" ("Trade"). [10]

Upin & Ipin is a Malaysian animated television series produced by Les' Copaque Production. The series features the life and adventures of the eponymous bald twin brothers in a fictional Malaysia. Originally a side project for the blockbuster animated film Geng: The Adventure Begins, Upin & Ipin was introduced on TV9 in Malaysia on 13 September 2007 as a six episode Ramadan/Hari Raya Aidilfitri special, to teach children the significance of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan and Shawwal. A second season, also centered on Ramadan, aired in 2008. Its third season, Upin Ipin and Friends, debuted internationally on Disney Channel Asia the following year, and began to focus more on the everyday lives of The Twins and their friends. As of 2023, Upin & Ipin is the longest-running Malaysian animated series, currently in its 16th year of production, and is currently in its 17th season.

D'Masiv is an Indonesian rock band which based in Jakarta. It consists of six members: Rian Ekky Pradipta (vocals), Dwiki Aditya Marsall (guitar),Nurul Damar Ramadan (guitar), Rayyi Kurniawan Iskandar Dinata (bass), Wahyu Piadji (drums), and Vegry Harindah Husain (keyboardist). D'Masiv' name later aligned with the bands "Top" of Indonesia such as Ungu, Nidji, or Peterpan because of the popularity of their songs.
Guruh Gipsy is a 1976 Indonesian studio album released by Guruh Sukarnoputra in collaboration with the band Gipsy, consisting of Keenan Nasution, Chrisye, Roni Harahap, and Oding Nasution. Mixing modern instruments with traditional Javanese and Balinese music styles, it is now considered a landmark album. In 2007, Rolling Stone Indonesia voted it the second best Indonesian album of all time.
"Indonesia Maharddhika" is a song by Indonesian progressive rock band Gipsy, consisting of Chrisye, Keenan Nasution, Oding Nasution, Roni Harahap, and Abadi Soesman, together with Guruh Sukarnoputra. It was released in 1976 on the album Guruh Gipsy with the names of its contributors hidden in the bilingual lyrics. In 2009, Rolling Stone Indonesia selected it as the 59th best Indonesian song of all time.
Balada Shalawat is an Islamic religious album released in 2010 by Gita Gutawa. It was arranged, orchestrated and produced by Erwin Gutawa and published by Sony Music Indonesia. Written as a way to "bring people to pray and praise Allah", the album included two new songs and six covers or rearrangements. The proceeds from album sales were to be donated to the poor.

Jockie Soerjoprajogo was an Indonesian musician and songwriter. Jockie began his musical career while a junior high school student in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan. After working with bands in Jakarta and Surabaya, in 1973, he joined with Ahmad Albar, Donny Fattah and Ludwig Leeman to form God Bless; he would remain with this band intermittently until the 2000s. Jockie also worked with artists such as Chrisye and Iwan Fals, ultimately writing two songs—"Kehidupan" ("Life") and "Kesaksian" ("Witness")—that were listed by Rolling Stone Indonesia as among the best Indonesian songs of all time.

Ratu was an Indonesian music duo formed in 1999 with Maia Estianty, then the wife of musician Ahmad Dhani, on instruments and Pinkan Mambo on vocals. Ratu entered the Indonesian musical scene with their first album, Bersama. After a short break caused by Mambo's departure in 2004, the group formed anew with Mulan Kwok as vocalist. This new line-up proved more successful, with their most successful songs – "Teman Tapi Mesra" and "Lelaki Buaya Darat" ("Womaniser") – released in this period; both song titles later became common terms in the Indonesian vocabulary. The group's second studio album, No. Satu, sold 200,000 copies on the day of its release, a record for an album by an Indonesian female group. The group dissolved in 2007.

Lyodra Margareta Ginting is an Indonesian singer from Medan, North Sumatera. She was the winner of the A3 category at the 2017 Sanremo Junior children's international solo singing competition in Sanremo, Italy, and the winner of the tenth season of Indonesian Idol. In both competitions, Lyodra practiced the use of the whistle register, which is the highest range of the human voice—higher than falsetto. She was listed as the youngest Indonesian Idol champion, at the age of 16 years and 255 days. She was awarded "Best Children Female Solo Artist" from 20th Anugerah Musik Indonesia Awards, and "Best New Asian Artist in Indonesia" from 2021 Mnet Asian Music Award. In addition, Lyodra was nominated for "Best Southeast Asian Act" from 2021 MTV Europe Music Awards.
Original Soundtrack Alexandria is the third studio album by Indonesian rock band Peterpan and a soundtrack album for the 2005 film Alexandria. The album was released in 2005 under Musica Studio's label. The album is the last album Andika and Indra worked on before they were dismissed from Peterpan in October 2006.
