Biston pustulata is a moth of the family Geometridae first described by William Warren in 1896. It is found in Hainan in China, southern Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia and Sundaland. [1]
The larvae have been recorded feeding on Acacia mangium and Gliricidia species. They are robust and coarsely mottled pale green (although more bluish grey green in earlier instars). The head is rugose (wrinkled), dull rufous orange, marked centrally with a darker brown, inverted "V". [2]
The peppered moth is a temperate species of night-flying moth.It is mostly found in the northern hemisphere in places like Asia, Europe and North America. Peppered moth evolution is an example of population genetics and natural selection.
The geometer moths are moths belonging to the family Geometridae of the insect order Lepidoptera, the moths and butterflies. Their scientific name derives from the Ancient Greek geo γεω, and metron μέτρον "measure" in reference to the way their larvae, or "inchworms", appear to "measure the earth" as they move along in a looping fashion. A very large family, it has around 23,000 species of moths described, and over 1400 species from six subfamilies indigenous to North America alone. A well-known member is the peppered moth, Biston betularia, which has been subject of numerous studies in population genetics. Several other geometer moths are notorious pests.
Biston is a genus of large, long-winged moths belonging to the family Geometridae. It is most notable for containing the well-known peppered moth. The genus was first described by William Elford Leach in 1815.
The Bistonini are a tribe of geometer moths in subfamily Ennominae. As numerous ennomine genera have not yet been assigned to a tribe, the genus list is preliminary. In addition, the entire tribe is sometimes merged into a much-expanded Boarmiini. In other treatments, the Erannini are included in the present group.
Calleremites is a monotypic moth genus in the family Geometridae. Its only species, Calleremites subornata, is found in China, Sikkim in India and Myanmar. Both the genus and species were first described by William Warren in 1894 and it has only been seen three times since then, the latest in a forest in northern Myanmar.
Biston robustum is a species of moth belonging to the family Geometridae. This is a large moth and is known in its native range as the giant geometer moth. It is related, and generally similar, to the famous and widespread Peppered Moth.
