Bob Nanna (born June 14, 1975) is an American musician best known as the singer and guitarist for the bands Braid [1] and Hey Mercedes. Nanna also currently performs as part of the band Lifted Bells, as well as solo releases under the handle The City on Film as well as his own name.
Robert Thomas Nanna was born in Chicago, Illinois. In 1993, Nanna moved to Urbana, Illinois to attend the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. [2] [3] Inspired by post-hardcore bands such as Jawbox and Hoover, [4] Nanna founded the band Braid soon after. [2] During their initial run, Braid played a total of 537 shows, [4] and toured with such bands as Jimmy Eat World and The Get Up Kids. [3] [5] Braid released three full-lengths, 1995's Frankie Welfare Boy Age Five, 1996's The Age of Octeen and 1998's Frame & Canvas, before breaking up in 1999. [2]
Nanna subsequently began his solo project The City on Film and formed Hey Mercedes with his Braid bandmates Todd Bell and Damon Atkinson and guitarist Mark Dawursk. From 2000 to 2005, Hey Mercedes released two full-lengths, 2001's Everynight Fire Works and 2003's Loses Control , and shared stages with such bands as the Early November, Armor for Sleep, Piebald, and Hopesfall. Braid reformed for a reunion tour in 2004. [4] After Hey Mercedes broke up, Nanna played in Certain People I Know, [9] before joining Lifted Bells. In 2013 he co-founded Downwrite, a website for commissioning custom songs, with Mark Rose of the band Spitalfield. [10]
Braid reunited in 2011, releasing the EP Closer to Close soon after, followed by their first full-length since 1998, No Coast in 2014. [11] Hey Mercedes has also played occasional shows, [9] including a 2016 reunion tour. [12]
In 2020, Nanna released his first album under his own name, Celebration States, a largely acoustic album recorded in one day. [13]

Let It Enfold You is the debut studio album by American rock band Senses Fail, released on September 7, 2004, through Vagrant Records. After finalizing their line-up, the band released their debut EP, From the Depths of Dreams, in 2002, which attracted the attention of Drive-Thru Records. The label signed Senses Fail; it had a distribution deal with MCA Records, which allowed them to acquire acts from Drive-Thru. Recording for the band's debut occurred at several studios in New Jersey in April 2003 with producer Steve Evetts. Additional recording took place at the end of the year. Described as an emo and screamo record, several of the songs on Let It Enfold You were influenced by poetry and literature.

After the release of the band's second studio album, The Age of Octeen (1996), drummer Damon Atkinson replaced Roy Ewing due to him being unable to commit to touring. Recording sessions took place at Inner Ear Studios in December 1997, with J. Robbins helping with production during the sessions. The album is an emo and post-hardcore release, for which the lyrics were co-written by vocalist/guitarists Chris Broach and Bob Nanna, or solely wrote by Nanna.

Loses Control is the second and final studio album by American rock band Hey Mercedes. Following the release of Everynight Fire Works (2001), guitarist Mark Dawursk left the band was replaced by Michael Shumaker in May 2002. Between then and the end of the year, the band spent time writing new material. They recorded Loses Control in April and May at Camp Street Studios in Cambridge, Massachusetts with producers Sean Slade and Paul Q. Kolderie. Loses Control is an indie rock, pop-punk and power pop record that used bigger and thicker guitar sounds, and Nanna double-tracking his voice.
"Post Marked Stamps No. 4" is a split EP between Kansas City, Missouri band The Get Up Kids and Chicago, Illinois group Braid. The album is the fourth in the "Post Marked Stamps" series, a set of nine split EPs between various bands put out by Tree Records in 1997. There were 2 different pressings of the album; One distributed in the United States, and another sold in Europe during the band's joint European tour. Each song was recorded separately, with "I'm a Loner Dottie, a Rebel" recorded at Red House Studios in Eudora, Kansas, and "Forever Got Shorter" recorded at Private Studios in Urbana, Illinois. The set included a sealed envelope that contained three postcards; One postcard for each song, including recording information and lyrics, and a third featuring poetry by Vigue Martin.
