The Early November is an American rock band from New Jersey, United States. The group formed in 2001 and signed with Drive-Thru Records in 2002.

As of 2024, the band has released two EPs: For All of This (2002) and The Acoustic EP (2002), and seven full-length albums: The Room's Too Cold (2003), triple album The Mother, the Mechanic, and the Path (2006), In Currents (2012), Imbue (2015), Lilac (2019), Twenty (2022), and their self-titled seventh album (2024).

History

Formation, demo and For All Of This (2001-2002)

The Early November formed in 2001 in Hampton, New Jersey. [5] The band's original lineup consisted of guitarists Arthur “Ace” Enders and Jim Sacco, bassist Sergio Anello and drummer Jeff Kummer. The band recorded a 5-song demo in Ender's basement, with Ender himself assuming vocal duties in addition to guitar. [6]

The band played shows in the South Jersey scene before signing to Drive-Thru Records in 2002. [7] During this time, Sacco and Anello were replaced with Steve Nakovich and Mike Klemash, respectively, due to differences in skill level. [8]

Richard Reines of Drive-Thru Records visited the band to give them advice, and after hearing them, convinced Drive-Thru co-owner Stefanie Reinesand to sign them to the label's roster. Joe Marro replaced Nakovich on guitar during this time. [9]

The band's debut EP For All Of This was released on December 6, 2002 through Drive-Thru Records. [10]

The Room's Too Cold (2003-2005)

The band's debut album The Room's Too Cold was released on October 7, 2003 through Drive-Thru Records. [11]

The Mother, the Mechanic, and the Path and breakup (2006-2010)

The band's second studio album The Mother, the Mechanic, and the Path was released on July 11, 2006 through Drive Thru Records. The album subsequently debuted at #31 on the Billboard 200 and is the band's highest-charting album to date. [12]

On March 13th, 2007, the band announced that they were going on indefinite hiatus. The band played its final show of its first run at Bamboozle Festival in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on May 6th, 2007. The band left open the possibility of one day reuniting. [13]

Reunion and In Currents (2011–2012)

The band released its third full-length album In Currents on July 10, 2012 through Rise Records. [14]

The album debuted at #43 on the Billboard 200. [15]

Imbue and Lilac (2013–2021)

The band released their fourth studio album Imbue on May 12, 2015. [16]

The band's fifth studio album Lilac was released on September 27, 2019 through Rise Records. [17] [18] [19]

Twenty (2022–2023)

The Early November went on tour with Armor For Sleep in the fall of 2023 as both bands were celebrating the 20th anniversary of their debut albums, The Room's Too Cold and Dream to Make Believe , respectively, where they would play the albums live in their entirety. [20]

The Early November (2024)

The band released their seventh studio album The Early November on June 14th, 2024 through Pure Noise Records. The album produced the singles "The Fool", [21] "Tired of Lying", [22] "What We Earn", [23] "About Me" [24] and "The Empress". [25]

Musical style and influences

Johnny Loftus of Allmusic described The Early November's music as having the "Drive-Thru Records sound", which he elaborated as having "incorporated sensitive emo, pop, and punk revivalist amalgams with a bit of post-hardcore grit". [26] The band's music has been likened to the works of The Get Up Kids, [27] Dashboard Confessional and Brand New. [28] Drummer Jeff Kummer has cited albums by Jimmy Eat World, Radiohead, Third Eye Blind, Weezer, blink-182 and Deftones as having influenced his playing style. [29]

New Noise Magazine called the Early November a "staple in the emo genre". [30]

Hidden in Plain View is an American five-piece post-hardcore band from northern New Jersey. They formed in 2000 and originally disbanded in 2007. During this seven-year run, the group released records with four record labels, including two full-length albums and three EPs. Hidden in Plain View played numerous venues, including The Capitol in Shamokin, Pennsylvania, and concert tours such as the Warped Tour and the Drive-Thru Records Invasion Tours in the United States, Europe and Japan. In 2015 they reunited and released an EP entitled Animal via Rise Records. In 2022, the band released their latest EP Tantrums.

Formed in June 2004, the band consisted of Matt Rauch, Ryan Baredes (Guitar), Max Rauch (Drums), Corey Zaloom (Keyboards), and Justin Niemiec (Bass) They released two albums. Strange Distress Calls was released in the United States a year after the band's formation on June 21, 2005. The Swindle was recorded in March 2008 with producer Joe Mcgrath and released in the fall of 2008.
