History

Inaugurated in 1956 at the Fort Erie Racetrack, the race was named in honor of Bold Venture, winner of the 1936 Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes.

This race was upgraded to a Grade III event in 2012. [1]

Fatal Bullet set a new track record time for the 6+12 furlong distance of 1:14.54 when winning the 2008 renewal. [2]

Woodbine Racetrack

Woodbine Racetrack is a race track for Thoroughbred horse racing in the Etobicoke area of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Owned by Woodbine Entertainment Group, Woodbine Racetrack manages and hosts Canada's most famous race, the Queen's Plate. The track was opened in 1956 with a one-mile oval dirt track, as well as a seven-eights turf course. It has been extensively remodeled since 1993, and since 1994 has had three racecourses.

The Prince of Wales Stakes is a Canadian Thoroughbred horse race run annually at Fort Erie Race Track in Fort Erie, Ontario. Restricted to only three-year-old horses bred in Canada, it is contested on dirt over a distance of 1+316 miles. In 1959, the Prince of Wales Stakes became the second race in the Canadian Triple Crown series. It follows the June running of the Queen's Plate and precedes the Breeders' Stakes in August.

Pink Lloyd is a Canadian Thoroughbred racehorse who has won seven Sovereign Awards during his career, including the award for Canadian Horse of the Year in 2017. He was undefeated in eight starts that year, with his largest win coming in the Kennedy Road Stakes. In 2018, he extended his winning streak to eleven with victories in the Jacques Cartier, New Providence and Achievement Stakes before the streak was broken on July 8 in the Shepperton Stakes. Three weeks later, he returned to the winner's circle in the Vigil Stakes followed by another win in the Kenora Stakes. Despite losing his last two starts of the year, he was named the Canadian Champion Sprinter of 2018.
