Bombus validus is a species of bumblebee found in China. [1] [2]

Contents

Appearance

This species has nearly clear wings with dark brown veins and medium-length hair. B. validus also has a black thorax and a largely orange tail. This color pattern helps it in mimicking another abundant bumblebee species, B. pyrosoma , in the northern Hengduan region. [1]

Females have mostly black hair on their sides and scutellum, with only a few grey hairs. The second and third segments of the tail have very few black hairs.

Males have hair on their sides and scutellum that can range from mostly black to mostly grey-white. The males do not have obviously larger eyes than the females.

Behavior

Males are expected to show a 'patrolling' flight behavior when searching for mates. [1]

Distribution

This species is endemic to North China, known only from Gangsu [3] and Sichuan. [2]
