Bretton is the first EP by British rock band Lower Than Atlantis, released in 2008.
Lower Than Atlantis formed in August 2007 in Watford, [1] while the members were attending college. [2] Guitarist Ben Sansom asked guitarist Mike Duce if he wished to form a band with Ben's brother Luke, who would provide vocals. [3] Alongside them was bassist Richard Wilkinson and drummer Matt Britz. [4] In April 2008, the group signed to Small Town Records, with whom they were aiming to release their forthcoming EP through. [5] Following line-up changes, [3] such as the addition of drummer Joshua Pickett, bassist Stephen Minter, [6] and Duce becoming the band's frontman, [7] they began working on what would become their first EP, Bretton. [3]
All of the songs on Bretton were written by Lower Than Atlantis, with lyrics by Duce and Luke Sansom. [6] Duce taught himself how to sing and play guitar at the same time while playing along to the band's Demo 2007 release. [8] Pickett had been playing the drums for eight years, naming Abe Cunningham from Deftones as a main inspiration. [1] However, Matt Britz had written and recorded the drum parts for Bretton. [6] Jeff and Ginge recorded the EP at The Pill Studios in Newport. [6] Matt Tuck produced the entire proceedings. [6] Tom Woodstock mastered the EP at The Roof Studios. [6]
Bretton was released on 18 October 2008 through Small Town Records, [9] before being released through Thirty Days of Night on 19 December 2008. [10] The artwork was done by Liam Flaherty Design. [6] A music video was filmed for "The Juggernaut", it was directed by Daniel Seecharan. [11] It was shot on a low budget. [12] The band spent a lot of 2009 supporting the EP. [1] Partway through the touring cycle for the EP, the band had several line-up changes, eventually leaving them with only vocalist/guitarist Mike Duce and guitarist Ben Sansom. [13]
Big Cheese magazine called the band "pissed off [and] energetic" while they "channel[ed] the dirty chugging riffs of Southern rock". [14] They claimed that "Rock 'n roll-infused post-hardcore just got some new superheroes." [14] Reviewing for Rhythm, Chris Barnes called the EP "a monster of technical music" with "low-slung grooves, odd time and intense riffs." [1] In a retrospective review, Ben Patashnik of Rock Sound described the EP's sound as "youthful, jagged hardcore", bearing "little resemblance" to the band's later material. [8] Concluding with the band's "wit shone through the short, sharp blasts of noise." [8]

Their eclectic sound combines different elements of several genres and has been described by Kerrang! as "taking ska, pop, grime, dubstep, punk and metal apart, then rebuilding them as a hyperactive hybrid". Their lyrics tend to focus on social commentary with a live show known for "clashing activism and good times". Black Lungs is a side project of Alexisonfire's guitarist and vocalist, and current Gallows frontman Wade MacNeil. MacNeil created the side project similar to his first punk rock band Plan 9, a more relaxed and melodic sound than Alexisonfire.
Your Demise are a British hardcore punk band from St Albans, England, formed in 2003. They shared stages and toured worldwide with the likes of Comeback Kid, Basement, Trapped Under Ice, Man Overboard, Enter Shikari, Parkway Drive, A Day to Remember and Bring Me the Horizon. On 22 September 2008, the band confirmed that they had signed a deal with Visible Noise. The band played their final gig at The London Underworld on 15 March 2014, after announcing in 2013 that they would be parting ways in March. They reunited for a one off benefit show for The Ghost Inside in 2015. They reunited again for the anniversary of The Kids We Used to Be but the shows were postponed due to the COVID-19 situation.

Young Guns are an English alternative rock band from High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. The members, working with each other in various musical interests throughout the 2000s, formally formed the band in 2008, and rose to prominence after their debut EP, Mirrors, earned them spots opening live shows for Bon Jovi and Guns N' Roses. Their debut album, All Our Kings Are Dead, on 12 July 2010. Their second album, Bones, was released in February 2012. He is best known for being the founder & former lead guitarist for the American pop punk band Yellowcard, as well as for the bands Amber Pacific and HeyMike! & This Legend. Benjamin Harper is Founder & CEO of Takeover Records. Alongside these projects, Ben is the Owner & Founder of Takeover Live, a broadcasting and media production company that specializes in live-streaming bands along with giving artists a platform to share their sound on.
Lower Than Atlantis were an English rock band from Watford, Hertfordshire. They formed in 2007 as a hardcore punk band and gradually shifted into a melodic rock sound over five studio albums, their last being 2017's Safe in Sound. The band consisted of vocalist, guitarist and songwriter Mike Duce, bassist Declan Hart, drummer Eddy Thrower, and guitarist Ben Sansom. They announced in December 2018 that they would be disbanding after a final 3 tour dates in 2019.

Far Q is the debut studio album by British rock band Lower Than Atlantis. Following multiple line-up changes, the band gained drummer Eddy Thrower before starting work on Far Q. The album was recorded above a printing factory in Hertfordshire between September and November 2009 with producer Daniel Lancaster. "Taping Songs Off the Radio" was released as a single in early March 2010 with Far Q following later that month. It was released through A Wolf at Your Door Records. A vinyl edition was released by German label Redfield. The album was critically lauded upon release. "Far Q" was released as a single in mid-July. In September and October, the band toured the UK on the Rock Sound Presents... Powered by Fender with Architects, Norma Jean and Devil Sold His Soul.
Changing Tune is the third studio album and major label debut by English rock band Lower Than Atlantis. Preceded by the non-album single "If the World Was to End", the band went on their first ever headlining tour in the UK in January 2012.

Lower Than Atlantis is the fourth studio album by British rock band Lower Than Atlantis. With the release of Changing Tune (2012), the band moved to an arena rock-orientated sound. Following the touring cycle for Changing Tune, Island Records gave the band an ultimatum. The result of which ended with the band taking a label advance and building their own recording studio in Watford in July 2013. Discussing new material, vocalist/guitarist Mike Duce called the lyrics "quite vague" compared to his previous autobiographical work. Bassist Declan Hart listed Pantera, C2C and The 1975, among others, as influences for the album. Recording was done with producer Dan Lancaster over the course of "seven or eight months". Lancaster constantly pushed the band to get the best take. The band soon moved to Peter Miles' studio in Devon to record drum tracks.

Safe in Sound is the fifth and final studio album by British rock band Lower Than Atlantis. Following the release of Changing Tune (2012), Island Records were streamlining and dropping artists who were underselling. Despite the album underselling, the group couldn't be dropped as the label had picked the option for their next album. The label offered the band the chance to take an advance and leave, which they subsequently did to build a personal studio. Here, the group worked on their next album, Lower Than Atlantis, which was released through Sony Music and supported by successful tours. In early 2015, the band were having discussions with Sony about their next album.
