Zreče is a town and a municipality in northeast Slovenia. It lies on the slopes of Pohorje in the upper valley of the Dravinja River. Traditionally the area was part of the Styria region. The municipality is now included in the Savinja Statistical Region. In 2002 it had a population of 6,245, growing to 6,443 according to the 2008 census. The economy is centred on tourism, especially in the winter months with the ski resort at Rogla. A proportion of the population is also employed in agriculture.
The settlement was named Brezje until 1998, when it was renamed Brezje pri Oplotnici (literally, 'Brezje near Oplotnica') to differentiate it from other settlements with the same name. [1] The name Brezje is shared with several other places in Slovenia and is derived from the word brezje 'birch grove'. [3]

It is closely related to the beech-oak family Fagaceae. The genus Betula contains 30 to 60 known taxa of which 11 are on the IUCN 2011 Green List of Threatened Species. They are a typically rather short-lived pioneer species widespread in the Northern Hemisphere, particularly in northern areas of temperate climates and in boreal climates.
A church on Mount Juniper (Brinjeva gora) southwest of the settlement is dedicated to Saint Agnes (Slovene : Sveta Neža) and belongs to the parish of Zreče. It was built between 1726 and 1732. [4]
A church building or church house, often simply called a church, is a building used for Christian religious activities, particularly for Christian worship services. The term is often used by Christians to refer to the physical buildings where they worship, but it is sometimes used to refer to buildings of other religions. In traditional Christian architecture, the church is often arranged in the shape of a Christian cross. When viewed from plan view the longest part of a cross is represented by the aisle and the junction of the cross is located at the altar area.
