The CAF Southern California Wing Museum (commonly shortened to CAF SoCal) is an air museum at Camarillo Airport in Camarillo, California. [1] It is a unit of the Commemorative Air Force. [2] [3] It is home to several airworthy historic aircraft, as well as static aircraft, displays, models, and artifacts primarily related to military aviation in World War II. The unit includes a Cadet Program focused on introducing children and young adults to the aviation and aerospace sectors, and provides them scholarship opportunities for flight training. [4]

Collection

The museum's collection of foreign aircraft is the largest of any Commemorative Air Force wing. [5] Warbird rides are sold on the PBJ Mitchell, SNJ Texans, and PT-19. [6] As of November 2024, it is home to the following aircraft: [7]

Warbirds over Wanaka is a biennial air show in Wānaka, held on the Easter weekend of even-numbered years since 1988. It is held at Wānaka Airport, 10 km south-east of Wānaka, in the southern South Island of New Zealand. Initially conceived by New Zealand live deer recovery pioneer, Sir Tim Wallis, as a show for him to display his collection of World War II aircraft, the event has grown into a major institution. Roads are closed and traffic is detoured around the area during the weekend. Hotels, motels and backpackers around Wānaka are usually booked well in advance. Accommodation is impossible to find if one does not have a booking.

Camarillo Airport is a public airport located three miles (5 km) west of the central business district of Camarillo, a city in Ventura County, California, United States. The airport has one runway and serves privately operated general aviation and executive aircraft with no scheduled commercial service. A separate, uncontrolled runway in the southwest quadrant of the airport is for exclusive use of light-sport aircraft and ultralights, and is not connected to the larger airport. The airport is the site for an annual air show "Wings Over Camarillo", organized by the Southern California Wing of the Commemorative Air Force.

<i>Texas Raiders</i> American WWII aircraft

Texas Raiders was an American Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress, a B-17G-95-DL built by Douglas Long Beach. In 1967, it was purchased by the Commemorative Air Force's Gulf Coast Wing "Texas Raiders" group, which maintained and flew the aircraft out of Conroe-North Houston Regional Airport in Conroe, Texas. The aircraft was destroyed on November 12, 2022, by a mid-air collision with a P-63 Kingcobra at an air show at Dallas Executive Airport, Texas, that killed all five occupants and the P-63 pilot.
