Cabatangan

Cabatangan is a barrio or barangay in Zamboanga City, Philippines. It is bordered by Pasonanca (north) and Santa Maria (south). The barrio used to be the regional complex of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao until 2001. The now abandoned ARMM Legislative Building, together with the statue of Apo Sumayang Galura, is one of the attractions in the barrio. Cabatangan is known for the siege and hostage of its residents by the Moro National Liberation Front in November 27, 2001, which lasted for a day and hostages were freed. Bong Bue, a local journalist, was one of the residents being hostaged by a terrorist group similar to Abu-Sayyaf.

The Dos Palmas kidnappings was a hostage crisis in the southern Philippines that began with the seizing of twenty hostages from the affluent Dos Palmas Resort on a private island in the Honda Bay, Palawan, by members of Abu Sayyaf on May 27, 2001, and resulted in the deaths of at least five of the original hostages, including three American citizens, Guillermo Sobero and Gracia and Martin Burnham. At least 22 Filipino soldiers were killed in attempts to apprehend the captors and free the hostages in the 12 months following the initial hostage taking. An unknown number of captors were killed by government forces.

The legislative districts of Zamboanga City are the representations of the highly urbanized city of Zamboanga in the various national legislatures of the Philippines. The city is currently represented in the lower house of the Congress of the Philippines through its first and second congressional districts.

Putik is one of the developing barangays in Zamboanga City. Situated at six kilometers east of the city proper. The name "putik" is ironic to the bustling economic situation of the barangay. It has one of the most number of subdivisions and a number of public and private offices. It serves as a residential, commercial and agricultural area.

Aliguay

Aliguay is an island in the Philippines, and a barangay of Dapitan City. The island is an established marine sanctuary. The island is surrounded by white sand beaches and coral reefs. There are no water sources on the island. A few residents live on Aliguay Island, mostly selling fish to tourists.

Zamboanga City crisis 2013 armed conflict in the southwest Philippines

The Zamboanga City crisis or Zamboanga Siege was an armed conflict in Zamboanga City, Philippines between the forces of the Philippine government and a faction of the Moro National Liberation Front, generally known by other factions as the Rogue MNLF Elements (RME) under the Sulu State Revolutionary Command (SSRC) led by Ustadz Habier Malik and Khaid Ajibon, whose group continues to recognize Nur Misuari as MNLF Chairman. The crisis erupted on September 9, 2013, when this MNLF faction attempted to raise the flag of the self-proclaimed Bangsamoro Republik at Zamboanga City Hall, which had earlier declared its independence on August 12, 2013, in Talipao, Sulu. This armed incursion, which has been variously described a "crisis", a "standoff", a "siege", and a "humanitarian crisis", was met by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP), which sought to free hostages and expel the MNLF from the city. The standoff degenerated into urban warfare, and brought parts of the city into a standstill for days.

Barangay de Ayala, or more commonly Ayala, is one of the 98 barangays in Zamboanga City. It is located 16.5 kilometers west of the city proper and is easily accessible by land and sea. Generally regarded by Zamboangueños as one of the most developed barrios in the west coast, Ayala spans 5.29 square kilometers wide and houses several canning factories.

2001 Misuari rebellion

The 2001 rebellion of the Moro National Liberation Front Misuari faction against the Philippine government during the presidency of Gloria Macapagal Arroyo was led by Nur Misuari, the founder of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF). It began on November 19, 2001 when members of a faction of the MNLF loyal to Misuari attacked a Philippine Army headquarters in Jolo, Sulu in the Philippines. The attack was meant to disrupt the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao elections scheduled for November 26 of that year, which eventually replaced Misuari as governor.

DXVB-TV, channel 21, is a commercial television station of Philippine television network GTV, owned by Citynet Network Marketing and Productions, a subsidiary of GMA Network Inc. Its transmitter is located at Brgy. Cabatangan, Zamboanga City.
