"Cake to Bake" is a song by Latvian band Aarzemnieki. It was chosen to represent Latvia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 in Denmark. [1]

Eurovision Song Contest 2003

The Eurovision Song Contest 2003 was the 48th edition of the annual Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Riga, Latvia, following Marie N's win at the 2002 contest in Tallinn, Estonia with the song "I Wanna". It was the first time Latvia had hosted the contest – only 3 years after the country made its debut. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster Latvijas Televīzija (LTV), the contest was held at the Skonto Hall, with the final on 24 May 2003. The live show was hosted by Marie N and Renārs Kaupers. It was the first Eurovision Song Contest held in a Baltic language-speaking country.

Latvia in the Eurovision Song Contest

Latvia has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 20 times since making its debut at the contest in 2000, where the group Brainstorm finished third with the song "My Star". Latvia won the contest in 2002, with Marie N and the song "I Wanna", defeating Malta by 12 points. Latvia is the second former Soviet country to win the contest. The 2003 contest was held in the Latvian capital Riga. The country achieved its third top 10 result in 2005, when Walters and Kazha finished fifth with "The War Is Not Over".

On March 1, 2008, the band Pirates of the Sea was chosen to represent Latvia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 with the song Wolves of the Sea. It was placed 12th. It was the last time Latvia had made it to the ESC final until 7 years later, when they finally qualified for the final in 2015 with the song "Love Injected" by Aminata.

Latvia participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2009, marking its tenth entrance to Eurovision. Originally, after budget cuts were made by the Latvian government on the Latvian broadcaster, Latvijas Televīzija (LTV), announced plans to withdraw from the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 in Russia, but on 12 January 2009 it was announced by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) that Latvia would participate.

Latvia and Latvijas Televīzija (LTV) participated at the Eurovision Song Contest 2010, to be held in Oslo, Norway in May 2010.

Latvia participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku, Azerbaijan. The Latvian entry was selected through an Eirodziesma 2012, a national selection consisting of a web selection, two semi-finals and a final, organised by the Latvian broadcaster LTV. Anmary represented Latvia with the song "Beautiful Song", which failed to qualify from the first semi-final, achieving 16th place with 17 points.

Latvia participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 in Copenhagen, Denmark. The Latvian entry was selected through Dziesma 2014, a national final format that consisted of two semi-finals and a final, organised by the Latvian broadcaster Latvijas Televīzija (LTV). Aarzemnieki represented Latvia with the song "Cake to Bake" written by Guntis Veilands, which failed to qualify from the first semi-final, placing 13th with 33 points. This is the sixth year in a row that the nation has failed to qualify for the final.

Aarzemnieki are a Latvian band that represented Latvia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 in Copenhagen, Denmark, with their song "Cake to Bake". The lead singer of the band, Jöran Steinhauer is German.

Samanta Tīna

Samanta Poļakova, better known as Samanta Tīna, is a Latvian singer and composer.

Latvia participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 with the song "Love Injected", written and performed by Aminata. Latvian broadcaster Latvijas Televīzija (LTV) organised a new national selection show titled Supernova 2015 in order to select the Latvian entry. "Love Injected" performed by Aminata was the eventual winner of the competition, winning the right to represent Latvia at the 2015 contest in Vienna, Austria. In the second of the Eurovision semi-finals "Love Injected" placed second out of the 17 participating countries, securing its place among the 26 other songs in the final. This was the first time in six years that Latvia had managed to qualify to a Eurovision final. In Latvia's sixteenth Eurovision appearance on 23 May, "Love Injected" finished in sixth place, receiving 186 points and full marks from three countries. This was Latvia's best finish in the contest since 2005.

Aminata Savadogo

Aminata Savadogo, occasionally known as simply Aminata, is a Latvian singer, songwriter, record producer, and model. She represented Latvia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 with the song "Love Injected". She released her debut studio album, Inner Voice, in April 2015.

Dziesma was Latvia's national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest. The show was produced by Latvijas Televīzija. It replaced Latvia's long-running national selection Eirodziesma in 2013, but was cancelled in favour of Supernova in 2015, due to producing poor results for Latvia in Eurovision.

Supernova is a Latvian music entertainment show created by the Latvian broadcaster, LTV. It is currently used as the Latvian national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest.

Latvia participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 with the song "Heartbeat" written by Aminata Savadogo. The song was performed by Justs. Songwriter Aminata Savadogo represented Latvia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 with the song "Love Injected" where she placed sixth in the grand final of the competition. The Latvian broadcaster Latvijas Televīzija (LTV) organised the national final Supernova 2016 in order to select the Latvian entry for the 2016 contest in Stockholm, Sweden. Twenty songs were selected to compete in the national final, which consisted of four shows: two heats, one semi-final and a final. In the heats and the semi-final, four entries were selected to advance from each show: two entries selected based on a public televote and two entries selected by a four-member jury panel. Four songs ultimately qualified to compete in the final on 28 February 2016 where a public vote exclusively selected "Heartbeat" performed by Justs as the winner.

Latvia participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 with the song "Line" written by Agnese Rakovska, Kristaps Ērglis, Kristians Rakovskis. The song was performed by Triana Park. The Latvian broadcaster Latvijas Televīzija (LTV) organized the national final Supernova 2017 in order to select the Latvian entry for the 2017 contest in Kiev, Ukraine. 22 songs were selected to compete in the national final, which consisted of four shows: two heats, one semi-final and a final. In the heats and the semi-final, four entries were selected to advance from each show: two entries - based on a public televote and two entries by a jury panel. Four songs ultimately qualified to compete in the final on 26 February 2017 where a public vote exclusively selected the winner.

Triana Park

Triana Park is a Latvian group founded in 2008 consisting of lead vocalist and founder Agnese Rakovska, guitarist Artūrs Strautiņš, drummer Edgars Viļums and bassist Kristaps Ērglis. Their style combines pop and electronic with hints of hip-hop and rock.

Latvia participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2018. The Latvian broadcaster Latvijas Televīzija (LTV) organized the national final Supernova 2018 in order to select the Latvian entry for the 2018 contest in Lisbon, Portugal.

Latvia participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2019. The Latvian broadcaster Latvijas Televīzija (LTV) organised the national final Supernova 2019 in order to select the Latvian entry for the 2019 contest in Tel Aviv, Israel.

Latvia originally planned to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 with the song Still Breathing written by Samanta Tīna and Aminata Savadogo and performed by Samanta Tīna. The Latvian broadcaster Latvijas Televīzija (LTV) organized the national final Supernova 2020 in order to select the Latvian entry for the 2020 contest in Rotterdam, Netherlands. However, due to 2019-20 pandemic of Coronavirus, the contest was cancelled.

Latvia will participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, having internally selected Samanta Tīna as their representative. She was due to compete in the 2020 contest with "Still Breathing" before the event's cancellation.
